I think there's a big difference between making a canoe out of really old wood (never the best choice either way) and claiming that the world has only existed for several thousand years while the earth shows that it's been around for billions of years.

One is definitely deception and it ain't the canoe.

Also, the canoe example is taking materials which have actually existed for a long time and putting them into a new form, whereas the embedded age idea AV likes so much has God making new materials so that they look old.
