No. One of the definitions of disaster is: "A disaster is an occurrence disrupting the normal conditions of existence and causing a level of suffering that exceeds the capacity of adjustment of the affected community." (Bolding is not mine since it's a straight copy and paste job from a World Health Organization pdf)

There wasn't any community to effect in a negative manner at the time, so no disaster.

Merry Christmas, AV! Good to see you. I actually thought about bumping your rangifer thread right before Christmas Eve, but for some reason didn't.

TYVM, Chesterton!

And a very Merry Christmas back to you!

LOL -- I remember making that thread a long time ago!

I was wondering if I'd catch anyone on it -- ^_^

Can the Big Bang Theory be considered a natural disaster on a universal scale?

I think a process which started out as a little dot thingy and eventually produced Santa Claus and Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer has got to be rated as an amazing success.

I think it's only a natural disaster if it hurts and inconveniences humans or something we can empathise with in some way.

Welcome Back, AV, Merry Christmmas!

Does it result from default, or is it a reset back to default?

We are completely ignorant of of any conditions before the big expansion.
Our cosmos might just be one drop of matter in the midst of a sneeze by God.
God might have been hosting guests from the community as well.

In spite of what some poetic scientists are saying about nothingness being unstable, I think it must have been amazingly serene before the big bang.

With enough spin, you can make anything its own opposite.

The event, no. The theory, yes.

Great to see you back here again, you've been missed!

Well I called FEMA and advised them of this disaster. I told them I was badly in need of relief and asked how long before they could cut me a check. After being placed on hold for six seconds the lady told me no, that does not qualify as a disaster. :sigh: The good news is that is the shortest time I have ever spent on hold.

True. True.

So would that be counterclockwise spin?

Ah. Depending on which way is up, at the *snerk* "time" !

TYVM, Shemjaza!

And a Merry Christmas to you as well!

And just so you know, the universe will strike us down in a heartbeat if we make the slightest mistake.

And even if we don't make any mistakes, it's just a matter of time before ... you know ... the curtain falls.

And from a natural point-of-view, it's just a matter of time before thermodynamics catches up with everything.
