  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Now you know why I call it: pulling rank.

God would have corrected it to "coney" not to hare, as hare is a correct translation. God would have changed it from "the hare and the hyrax" to "the hare and the coney" and Coney means Rabbit. Its an english word whose meaning has not changed. When it was written it meant rabbit, and it still means rabbit today.

Thank you for telling that God changed it Hyrax to Coney. We don't use Coney over here anymore. But its still in use in jolly* old England.

*Maybe not so jolly right now, poor guys are having their worst ever World Cup.

Don't use your inflated post count give you a false sense of superiority. I may be crazy for trying to help people here but I am not crazy enough to "count".

Then why isn't "coney" in the KJB?

If God corrected it, which according to you guys He must have ... why is the word "hare"?

5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

That's the Kings Jame Bible is it not?

Hares =/= Rabbits

Rabbits = Coneys

Perhaps I did not understand your point. But then you usually don't have one.

Yes, I am here to try to help people.

Creationists are overall bad for America. They impede the scientific ability of American students.

No they don't.

And once again you are quibbling over minutiae.

Leviticus 11:5,6
11:5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
11:6 And the hare, because he cheweth the cud , but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

It mentions hares and coneys. And what is a coney?

Its an island. Famous for hot dogs and rollercoasters. Oh I see your point now! God was prophecying that if you ever see a dog from an island on a rollercoater - don't eat it.

Whew! That was a close one.

Seriously, you have no point in raising this issue. You have no idea what this text is trying to convey. For an accuracy challenge, I think you need some target practice.

On the origin of the name of Coney Island

"Coney Island therefore appears to be the English adaptation of the Dutch name. The word "coney" was popular in English at the time as an alternative for rabbit; while coney survives in archaic and dialectal contexts, a later adaptation, "bunny", is now in common use."

The people who wrote the KJB were English. Coney was not an unknown word. Its not some "mystery." It is as well understood as the word "Sunday." It means rabbit. This is not actually up to a debate.

Next I'll bet you'll say the Canary Islands were name after dogs!

Or Panama hats are from Ecuador!

Or a ten-gallon hat holds two gallons!

Did you know that rabbits eat some of their poo which is undigested giving rise to the similarity of those who regurgitate. Both are referred too as chewing their cud

It is never called chewing the cud except by creationists trying to defend the inerrancy of the Bible.

Don't be a dolt, ok? The physical action is similar enough that its written that way. Any differences more subtle than that are moot. Its also a really good reason to declare a food unclean.

That's right.

The Bible says it, that settles it.

But God does not call a food unclean because the animal "chews it cud". The clean animals cows, goats, and sheep all chew their cuds. So do deer and elk, and they are clean to.

Chewing cud was not what made an animal unclean.

:)
It is actually poopless poop......

Rabbits: The Mystery of Poop

Do you know that rabbits eat their own faeces? It sounds a little strange but this is normal. In fact, it is actually healthy!

Rabbits releases two types of droppings – normal poop and cecotropes.
Cecotropes look like little bunch of grapes and can sometimes be very smelly but they have high nutritional value for the rabbits.
Owners can rarely see their bunnies’ cecotropes (and him eating it) as it occurs usually at night while most of us are in dreamland.

So the next time you see your rabbits eating their own poop, he is just making sure that he gets all the nutrients he need.

(From left to right) Cecotropes and Normal Poop. (We know what you're thinking. No, they are not chocolates!)

Doesn't make a bit of difference, the hoof is not cloven and is therefore unclean.

There you go!

And the pig has a cloven hoof but does NOT chew its cud. Therefore it is unclean. For land animals it must pass both tests to be kosher.
