mother interested in wels

So this was unexpected. Thanks be to God. I created a topic on tithing and rules that my mothers reformed church was doing and advice. After 2 days of going over bible verses you guys gave me and the difference of law and gospel... she is interested in wels. There is one walking distance from her house.she's going to talk to the pastor tomorrow.

My mother keeps argueing justification with Jesus saying himself to be holy as God is holy. I give the verses to back everything up but it goes in circles. Then she wants me to talk to my uncle who is reformed. She has been taking the time to read the verses I gave her.

Yes I agree. Fast indeed. I really hope she sticks through with this when I leave to go back home. She's afraid she's going to get caught in sin during the pretribulation rapture and be left behind. I think Luther had some great words on this very thing when he spoke of law and gospel and in the augsburg apology on justificatoon. Not to mention the pretrib raptureb isnt biblical.

I have been a member of both and could be a member of either in the future. I agree more with LCMS, but I do not shun or look down on the WELS folk. I read literature from both.

Indeed. If I somehow gave that impression off my apologies. I am more than happy my mother is considering wels. I contacted the pastor and invited him over with my mothers consent of course. Im Lcms though so in being careful not to say anything contrary to wels I always ensure I let her know im speaking on behalf of what the lcms says.

The differences between LCMS and WELS are more practical than theological. It's how each applies the biblical teachings that is different, not necessarily the teachings themselves.

A quick update about my mother,

She continues to go to english classes/bible studies every tuesday. She has yet to experience an actual service because of work. However occasionally we will talk and she will ask about different things that her evangelical friends are claiming on why we are wrong. She generally recieves what I have to say very well. Recently I told her to get in contact with the pastor to start Catechism classes, she thought it was a good idea and will be doing it.
