No, there is no such thing as socialism. The politicians just call themselves socialist, they support the socialist party, but they really are not socialist.
You can find them listed in the Democrat Socialist of America wiki site -
The DSA is not only by far the largest socialist organization in the United States in the 21st century, it is also the largest socialist organization in the United States in over a century.[5][6] By the end of 2017, membership in the organization had risen to 32,000, primarily because of the influx of youth in reaction to the presidency of Donald Trump. As of September 2, 2018, membership stood at 50,000[7] and the number of local chapters had increased from 40 to 181.[8] As of December 2017, the median age of its membership was 33, compared to 68 in 2013.[9] In the 2017 election, fifteen candidates who were members of the DSA were elected to office in thirteen states, most notably Lee Carter in the Virginia House of Delegates, adding to the twenty members already holding elected office nationwide.[10] In November 2018, two DSA members, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, were elected to the House of Representatives while eleven were elected to state legislatures.[11]But no, there are no socialist

Bernie Sanders calls himself a Democratic Socialist for the last 30 years, but there are no socialist.
Go figure,
The political scientist and historian in me doubts that.My guess is that of that 77% there is a large component that just don't have a real grasp of political ideology or history.
The Dems have gone the way of Democratic Progressive rather than Socialist.

As though the Democratic Party is not in the pocket of all sorts of "millionaires and billionaires."
Yes, and there is nothing inherent in socialism that would prevent that being a democratically run government.Socialism is an economic system that, by definition, is run by a government.
I'm just going to check, before I say what I'm thinking of saying.Yes, and there is nothing inherent in socialism that would prevent that being a democratically run government.
Yes it is. You can capitalize the S to make it seem like there is only Marxist economic/polical Socialism, but that doesn't change the fact that there are varieties of socialism and its manifestation.Sure, but that is not Socialism...and it is not what is being promoted these days by some of members of Congress and, unfortunately, by some ordinary people who are charged up by the idea of some perfect world being only a few easy legislative steps away.
I'm just going to check, before I say what I'm thinking of saying.
Are you telling me you think "Democratic Socialism" can work? If so, please look at China, where voting in a manner the Elites at the top of China's almost-socialist government can get you arrested.
Actually socialism has a definite meaning i.e. control of the means of production by the state.
Continuing to repeat a falsehood won't make it true.Socialism is an economic system that, by definition, is run by a government.
The boogie man has to be scary for the fear tactics to work.why do folks want to bring up china or cuba or venezuala? Use Denmark or Sweden or Iceland or Finland
2020 poll: 77 percent of Democrats back socialism, but most voters don’t
Although the margin seems to be closer every day?
M-Bob
While 77 percent of Democrats believe that the country would be “better off” if it were more socialist, overall a majority of voters don’t, by a margin of 51 percent to 45 percent, according to the latest Public Opinion Strategies survey.
China is still run by the Communist Party.I'm just going to check, before I say what I'm thinking of saying.

What about socialism translates into people getting arrested for the way they vote?I'm just going to check, before I say what I'm thinking of saying.

You'd think with so many successes, they'd point to their wins to rile up the base instead of resorting to spreading fears of the coming Red Menace to get out the vote.
