I rented it and tried it for a few days. But eventually I had to bring it back, so... lol. I got stuck on it anyways. But it did seem like a good game.

I have a 7800 (which is really a 7500 with better GL drivers) in my laptop, I should see how that does.

Just running around the first couple of cities. It's pretty smooth if I set my display for 1280x960, pretty bad if I try to do 1600x1200, just plain pathetic if I try to turn on the TRUFORM spline stuff (using a plugin prog). I mean, like, 3-5 fps. I guess the thing to do is just play with that stuff off at a lower resolution for now, then get a new video card in a year or two.

Yeah, at what, 640x480?
Maybe when I'm rich I'll be able to get a better gaming machine. Looks like the game is now entirely GPU-bound; the CPU is sitting idle.
I really wish Bethesda would release patches for the last couple of bugs - crash to desktop on loading saved games, and the bugs with DontThreadLoad=0. If they fixed those, the game would be a lot smoother.
