• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Then maybe you should have said "real neat" car in your challenge. I, for one, wouldn't have questioned it, and I would have answered "no" to your question.

(Now watch, folks, this thread is going to light up with question marks - a "scientist's" standard icon.)

Heaven forbid anyone should ask questions if they don't understand someone else's question.

By "perfect" I mean "complete." Now can you answer the challenge?

As in, it has all the parts that it was designed to have? If that's the case, I answer "no" to your challenge.

The technology of a perfect car to me is such that it will never, ever allow the car to get into a wreck. Your car failed to live up to what it was advertised to do. As the builder, that clearly is your fault.

As I stated before, you're assuming the car was wrecked while in motion. I did not make that stipulation in my challenge. You guys try so hard to fail my simple challenges, you actually make yourselves look bad by overlooking even simple things. Why doesn't someone surprise me by actually answering it?

Keep in mind in your perfect car challenge that for the analogy to hold you also made me, the driver to whom you gave the car. You made everything in the scenario. You made the road, the ground, the laws of gravity, the laws of momentum, all physical laws, all potential intoxicants I could imbibed before getting behind the wheel...all of it. And likely you would know what I was capable of, down to every skill or lack thereof. Some would say you would even know what I was GOING to do in the future.

So in that instance you might wish to take some responsibility if I mess it up.

SOmething you fail at repeatedly is to take into consideration that maybe just because you can "think" it up, doesn't mean it necessarily is "great".

So far I think I've seen nothing but overwhelming rejection of your challenges and analogies which indicates one of two things:

1. You are smarter and more insightful than everyone else around you.
2. You aren't but think you are.

I wonder which it could be.

No --- no --- not. Don't make anything more out of my challenge than what's there, or you'll just confuse yourself.

I define a perfect car as one that I, a mere human, could not wreck by any means.

No he will just make the analogy relevant which your bogus analogy is not. That is what you are afraid of because you know that with a relevant analogy you would be to blame. It is only with an irrelevant analogy that you can appear to escape blame.

Sure, you created a "complete" car. Unfortunately it was incomplete. Oh, did I mention? By "incomplete" I mean blue. Now do you see what's wrong?

Let me write what everyone knows you meant:

No --- no --- not. Don't make anything more out of my challenge than what's there, or you'll just expose my analogy for the poor example it was.

Really - for the analogy to be complete, you need to have done all those things. The analogy seems to be trying to establish responsibility. Well, who did what affects who's responsible, right? So we have to have the analogous characters doing analogous things. Like making the physical laws.

Then I highly recommend you retract the challenge because you are attempting to make a point about GOD.

Ergo your challenge is flawed.

I seem to recall a discussion waaay back in my undergraduate philosophy class around Guanillo's reposte to Anselm's Ontological Argument for the existence of God. Something about that island than which none greater can be conceived... Can someone on here with a philosophy degree refresh us about this?

A perfect car would have some...interesting properties. Like being everyone's favourite colour when he or she looks at it.

Do you want to sit and admire it*, or do you want to answer the challenge?

* Remember though, you wrecked it.

I was unaware that "perfect" and "complete" were interchangeable. Had you said..
"If I gave you a car that had all of its parts and ran fine, and then something YOU did messed it up (but not while using it for its intended purpose), is it my fault?"..
I would have answered no, obviously in the statement you clearly assign the blame. No other answer would be correct would it..

Nope --- try answering it as it was written. Let's not interchange anything. Let's not add anything to the scenario. Let's just answer it. I can't dumb it down any further than what it is.

if a question asked is dumbed down too much it lacks detail.

try this on for size.

I ask you
"I want thing"

so how will respond? what "thing" am I talking about? How would you figure out what this thing is?

Your challenge is incomplete and is rigged because you know that if the challenge was complete you would not get the answer you desire. instead your using dishonest analogies to trick people into giving the answer to something that the analogy dose not relate to nor describe.

please be honest. I know its hard. Your whole lifetime you have lied to yourself and fooled yourself so it must be second nature, but please try and be an honest person and ask an honest question for once. If your god really does exist, he is probably pretty angry at you right now.
