I agree with you that God is not deceptive. It is because of this very fact that I think lends itself towards the obvious truth that the moon is a rock that does not produce its own light.

Again, d_taylor provided some beautiful pictures that show elevated peaks still managing to reflect the sunlight at the dividing line between light and dark. It just makes me laugh that he's arguing for a self-illuminating moon but is helping demonstrate how it reflects the sun.

Can anyone provide an alternative explanation for the photos that d_taylor has provided?

A new moon is not a lunar eclipse. It just means that the moon is up during the day and the sun is shining on the back of it... supposedly..... not a lunar eclipse where the earths shadow passes over the moon, which happens every once and a while.. not every month..

This diagram is almost always given to show the schematics of a solar eclipse... Let's take a good look though..

Look at the size of the sun compared to the moon and earth and the distances..

In reality, yes, the sun is huge. However, stand on the earth and it is the exact... yep... exact same size as the moon.

So...for this diagram to be valid, the sun should be represented as such. Being disingenuous as this diagram is, it leaves a large, no, huge amount of light passing by the moon, all the way around. This leaves the possibility of a "penumbra"

In reality, which this diagram does not represent, the sun and moon would be the exact same size. There would be no light passing the edges of the moon. This would mean that, like all shadows, the shadow of the moon must be larger than the moon itself.

If, and that's a big "if" the sun was the size depicted in this diagram.... then yes... we would get a penumbra, a tiny blacked out area on the earth from the moons's tiny shadow..

However, this is not the case. Yet schools all over the US, Canada and probably the world, present this diagram and the kids go home ignorant of the truth.. while science has another win as they have deceived the youth again.

OK OK ... you don't believe me... get a flashlight or a light bulb and try.... just try to make a shadow, on the wall that is smaller than the object creating the shadow... That is... while making sure that the light source is not greatly larger than the object casting the shadow, when viewed from the surface on which the shadow is cast.

So... no grabbing a marble and using a 6 inch spot light.. That is not realistic...

Use a flashlight and a beach ball, or base ball, or ... you....

The light source must be, like the sun, when viewed from earth.... the same size or smaller than the object....

Go give it a try...

It doesn't matter.. From our vantage point, they appear to be the same size. Thus... the diagram is invalid... also, there can be no penumbra.

The diagram is not invalid --- it is just not to scale. The penumbra is quite real. You really do have trouble with perspective.

That was a perfectly normal terminator line. It shows exactly what one would expect --- if you look carefully you can actually see illuminated mountain tops disappearing as they move into shadow. Same thing happens on earth.

The moon as science states is a sphere that is lit by the sun. With that stated, then the moon is always a full moon, in some direction.

Now here is a photo taken of a full moon and notice the light shinning off of the moon all the way around the moon and the light being emitted by the moon extends a good ways away from the moon itself and can be easily seen.

Now when the moon is in this stage (in the below photo) in the sky some part of the moon is still a full moon, in the sciences sphere moon.

So that being true, a halo of light still should be seen, being emitted around the edge of the moon even in the unlit dark area. Why because science states the moon is a sphere and is being lit by the sun.

But that light is not seen, the only light that seen is where that little sliver of the moon is lit.

So with the moon missing the halo of light like in the illustration

That shows the moon is not lit by the sun the but the moon is its own light that goes through lighting stages.

This light halo (above illustration) should be always present on a sphere moon lit by the sun because a sphere moon would always have a full moon. With light from the full moon side illuminating the space around the moon.

We've been over this, Jack. It's called a selenelion, and it only occurs when the sun is just setting or rising, not when it's FULLY RISEN. You keep saying it's happened when it's FULLY RISEN, but you've yet to provide any evidence of that.

It's a perfectly understood occurrence - we know why it occurs, and even when it's going to occur. That you don't like the explanation is neither here nor there.
