Well basically it took me a few tries before I got into a good guild in GW, and then there was a fallout and me and a few other members left and started a new guild which is the current one I'm in.

I don't know, I don't play GW, it's not a real MMORPG, imo, at least not the typical classic mmorpg with truly persistent worlds/zones (GW is instancing) and meeting up with people in every part of the game world. There are meeting areas where many players can hang around and chat, but that is basically a lobby area compared to how regular mmorpg's work where you meet people anyplace in the game world. GW to me is more like Diablo but just with a 3D lobby.

So I'm not sure what you are basing your opinion on. There are free mmorpg's but the regular pay/subscription ones are far better especially concerning the mentality of the community. The only mmo I like that does not have a subscription is Anarchy Online, though to get the expansions you do need a subscription but the classic version is free.

Yes, Guild Wars is a Cooperative/Competitive online RPG.

I think you are wrong though with what you said about the mentality of the community in paid subscription online RPGs. In subscribed WoW it is full of immature and idiot players. Playing on a private server is generally better, but you still have quite a few.

In Guild Wars on the other hand, the players are more mature.

Yeah it’s an online rpg, I agree with that. It’s just not an mmorpg in the classic sense of the nature, though.
WoW is a bit different as far as the community goes, many are first time mmorpg players and only because it has a warcraft title or made by Blizzard. Most will probably never really play other mmorpg’s unless they are made by Blizzard or have Warcraft in the title. You’ll find the good communities in the older games that have been around for some time, generally this excludes open betas or the first few months of any big title release until those players realize they are bored and have no interest in bugging the emerging community any longer.

That was one thing I noticed very early in EQ. Up to level 20, it was hard to find a zone bereft of idiots but from 20-30, they started to drop off pretty steadily then from 30-40, they dropped sharply and past 40, they were pretty rare, though you'd get some who bought accounts but they generally either learned the game quickly or got such a bad rep they couldn't get groups.

To be honest, I have no idea, I played the free month and didn't renew it. I really enjoyed it but before the free month was over, my interest had waned.
Hey how did that run for you anyway? Didn't you have like a mid powered gaming PC? You know Vanguard has no fixed pipeline fall back, it's fully a shader based engine. So things like animations, they require shaders to actually work, shaders are not always about eye candy. Only two games with this type of engine that I know of right now, including Supreme Commander.

It ran great for me with most things on medium and the rest turned up. The only game that's ever given me problems running the way I'd like to run it is Oblivion.

I'll definitely have to get a new video card and some more memory before Bioshock comes out.

Ahh yeah we have close to the same thing, I just have more RAM, dual-core 3200+ and your video card is a little faster than my X300 SE 256MB. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my video card but I want to use it as minimum/avg specs for game development, so I can keep check on not overdoing it heh. Luckily I don’t have Oblivion :D But I think I’ll be able to upgrade it pretty soon, I’m in desperate need for more VRAM for non-game apps. Yeah there is no way to really compare Oblivion with Vanguard on the hardware level since they use different aspects of the video card. Just because Oblivion may run at 100% does not mean Vanguard will even run at all... but it would of course since to run Obliv at 100% it would need to be a well featured card as all newer cards are.

I'm a veteran of EQ, SWG and WoW. All those I played a lot. I tried several others but didn't play them long. I'm not currently playing any but my old guildies (the bestest bunch evah) are asking me to join them in EQ II and I may do that.

I long for the good old days of jumping off the boat in OT and shouting for a group then dodging 'goons to get there. I miss having LOIO be one of the busiest places along with East Commons being where you go to buy/sell/trade. But I fear the days of PUGs are gone and it makes me sad because that also means my MMORPG days are over. It looks like WoW is the new standard and everyone is trying to copy it, which is good if WoW is your bag but not so good if you prefer other play styles.

I haven't gotten into raiding and such yet. Don't know if I will in my current guild because there's only 3 active members lol. Hopefully it picks up though.

Send out feelers to other guilds who don't quite have enough people and if you're a skilled player then you should be able to get into raiding.

The one I'm liking, so far, is Sword of the New World. You start out by making a family name which all your characters will br grouped under. You start out w/ 4 character slots, but can buy more later then you start out in the tutorial mode with just one character. Then you can have up to 3 characters & play them all at once. So you can have your fighter, mage & healer all at once. It is a Korean-based game so there's a good deal of grind, but with 3 characters it seems to go much faster. Not to mention the graphics are gorgeous.

And like all good (MMOG) drug dealers, there's a free test period, up to level 20, before you can decide to buy. Then you get 10,000 Vis & 1 of 3 UPC (Unique Player Character cards) when you register.

Well lets see, played EQ for a while, then World War Two Online, which I personally enjoyed alot even though its got a pretty bad reputation among the masses. It was a hard game that took alot of teamwork, and the learning curve was pretty steep so you really had to put some effort into getting better at it. I enjoyed that game more than other game I ever played, warts and all. .

Then I tried SWG, and that just sucked, especially when they went and just started handing out Jedi to everybody. WoW is alright, but really its just a gear chase. Warhammer Online sounds like its got potential, and I like the PVP focus it supposedly is going to have.

I love playing Anarchy-Online.

The reason I like it so much, is there is no blood in the game, no bleeding or death scenes. It's something that if I had kids I would let them play it. The cursing that happens in chat is moderated and punished by the administrators of the game for anyone who decides to disobey the rules.

It may have a steep learning curve but that just makes it more of a challenge for me. I have heard it's similar to World Of Warcraft only it's science fiction futuristic instead of back with swords/axes. Only it's free for a basic package and pay-per-month for expansions.

I wouldn't suggest it for MMORPG newbies but good for those looking for a challenge.
