  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Missing out on miracles?

Hi guys, I'm a born Christian and I've known basic theology since childhood. Most of it is just bookish knowledge I suppose. I want to experience God and not just learn about Him. I think it's the best way to develop a relationship with Him.

So I was reading the bible the other day and came across this verse:
[FONT=&quot]"Mark 6:5 - And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any mighty miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them."

So do our faith play a crucial part in us receiving miracles? For example, I have myopia. And it's such an irritation to wear contact lenses everyday. If I have faith and if it's God's will for me to be healed, would I be healed? I've never really asked God to cure me. The doc says it cant be cured anymore; they can only prevent it from worsening. So I find it hard to have enough faith to ask God. I didnt even realize I can ask God until a friend told me that her eyesight was miraculously healed when she prayed. Am I missing out on miracles because of my lack of faith? What should I do?

So, you have faith in what the doctors say, but not what God says???

My husband has been extremely sick for about 10 years. I am still trusting God that He will heal him. God may heal him by taking him home, but I believe Mike will be totally healed here in the world. I've seen God bring people back from brain death, so a simple thing like kidney failure or vision problems is simple for Him.

God heals in His own time. Just because you pray and nothing seems to happen, doesn't mean He didn't hear your prayers, or that He has decided not to answer them. But if you don't ask, the answer will definitely be No. Ask, believing, and God will heal you. It isn't easy, especially since it's taking so long. But I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God will heal us when we ask in faith.

Mmm yea, what you say does make a lot of sense. I'm not giving an excuse but it's just that that kind of thinking is not common in my denomination in my state. A lot of people dont seem to realize the magnitude of God's might. I differ from their type thinking mainly because of my dad. He has a lot of faith and believes in day-to-day miracles. But I dont think he has talked about medical miracles as much as miracles in other areas such as work, studies, etc. So yea.. my faith lacks particularly in that issue.

So how can I pray? Should I pray everyday or should I pray whenever I get frustrated with contacts lenses? How would I know if it's not God's will? I dont wanna be praying for it again and again if it's not His will you know.

I pray that your husband is cured by God soon. I know God is pleased with your faith. It's awesome that you understand God's power unlike me. God bless. : )

Your right on the money. For it is impossible to please God without Faith. Hebrews 11:6

Faith is the key my friend. With it, you can move mountains. when I say mountains, I mean the obstacles we face everyday. all the situations that go on in us, around us. depression, sickness, illness, anything the enemy can attack us with, we lift up the shield of FAITH;)...ephesians 6. And Ill let u in on alittle secret....If you want the Faith to be healed in your eyes...LISTEN TO THE WORD OF GOD!!! Faith comes by Hearing (Romans 10:17)....listen to the Word or preaching in your cd player...in your ipod....SPEAK THE WORD OF GOD YOURSELF. (for u hear urself when u speak right?)

When u say, "if it His will"....I want u to try to understand something. may the Lord show you... it is His will for His people to walk around healed. But u have got to want it bad enough. seek, and u shall find. knock and it shall be opened. Alot of people dont have the faith to be healed. Thats why Jesus said, Will the Son of Man really find faith when He comes back?
Build up your faith by hearing the Word. For IT IS HIS WILL for u to be healed.

Thank God for your healing. Pray for it, then thank Him every day, even if you don't see it yet. Faith is trusting in what you cannot see yet. Know that a miracle is on its way. Every time you get frustrated, thank God for teaching you patience through all this.

The Word says, "By His wounds, we are healed." Not "we will be healed," but "we ARE healed." Please remember that illness and physical injury were not in God's original plan. They are here because of generation after generation of sin. God will heal you.

But faith in that which is seen is no faith at all. Trust in God, thank Him daily for your difficulties as well as your victories. In His timing, you will be healed. It is your faith in God that will heal you. No magic anointing oil, no words, no "do this first." Your faith in God in all things, in your daily life, in your minute-by-minute decisions big and small - it is this faith that will bring your healing.

Prayers for you.

Stormie

PS, my faith sounds all great and strong, but depression is an ever-lurking evil, and I have to fight it on a daily basis. As long as we continue to fight, we will continue to be victorious, because of Who is fighting with us and for us.

@ImMoreThanAConqueror,
yes you're right. I've started spending more time with God lately. Still I backslide a lot though. Well, sometimes (like in the case of Paul) God's will was that his eye problem neednt be healed right. So that's why I said if it's God's will. But yes, overwhelming majority of the time His will is that we should be healed.

@Stormie
Thank you so much for taking your time and answers. I totally agree with what you say. : ) I will have more faith in God from now on. I think I'll even ask God for more faith. I'm so sorry about your emotional struggles.. I know what it's like to have depression lurking around the corner. I'll keep you and your husband in my prayers. God is faithful. I'm sure God will bless you and your husband with healing and true happiness.

Any time I have moved forward in faith it is because The Holy Spirit has made scripture come alive to me and my situation. The scripture says Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Rom 10:17So then faith [comes] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I believe this faith applies to all of our walk with Christ not just for saving faith. So you are doing the right thing in spending more time in God's word. Ask the Lord to enlighten your spirit to His truth more and more. We are to build ourselves up on our most holy faith and I believe this is one of the best ways to do so.
Jud 1:20But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

God had promised to dwell in you as you have recieved His new life and He will guide you into all truth.
Jhn 16:13However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own [authority], but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday when the promised Holy Spirit came to dwell in the hearts of born again believers. I urge you to trust that the HS will indeed do His job and guide you into all truth including the truth about healing and wholeness in Christ. Peace gg

Since the Day of Pentecost, healing is part of the effects of the baptism in the Spirit. This is where the believer is equipped with resources in the Spirit, including the gift of healing. Doing a bit of study about the Baptism in the Spirit and how it can enhance your spiritual life would be helpful to you.

Also, sickness is a work of the devil, and sometimes when normal prayer does not achieve the result, treating it as a work of the devil and commanding the spirit to leave the person, accompanied by prayer and fasting, could get results. Also, in some case (not all), sickness can be the result of sin. Gaining forgiveness can make a difference is that is the case, but remember, the sick person will know of the sin in cases like that. If the sick person is not aware of any sin, then sin is most probably not involved.

These are just thoughts and ideas which might be helpful.

Keep seeking, asking and knocking.

God honours our faith and trust in Him. As someone mentioned on another thread, the gift of patience is often important as we persevere with prayer and faith to see the complete work done in a persons life. I like this scipture as it encourages me to NEVER GIVE UP>If there is a danger we could lose our faith then that means sometimes we have to wait a long time to see the fulfillment of the promises of God. With Abraham it was 25 years I think. :prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer::prayer:

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:1Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:2saying: "There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:3Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'Get justice for me from my adversary.'

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:4And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, 'Though I do not fear God nor regard man,

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:5yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.' "

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:6Then the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge said.

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:7And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?

copyChkboxOff.gif
Luk 18:8I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?"

Hey guys, I'm so so sorry for this pathetically late reply. It's rude to reply this late. Things are hectic here and I'm barely able to go online. Thank you so much for your words. They definitely make sense. It has encouraged me to pray more and wait regardless of what happens. I'm happy since I know it is God's will whether I get healed or not. :) I'll just keep on praying.
