Origin of the names of the days
The names of the days are in some cases derived from Teutonic deities...
So?Atheists are not claiming that Jesus "sets the calendar."
Good -- then in America it's very common to say: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. In China its very common to say "bye bye'. So what?
It doesnt mean they are closet christians or are tacitly acknowldeging that god is real. Does someone think that it does?
Morality DayHow about:
Reason Day
Reality Day
Science Day
Technology Day
Tolerance Day
Civilization Day
Freedom Day
Sure. It's just an idiom. What does this have to do with Jesus setting the calendar? So?
Is it appropriate for atheists to say, 'goodbye', or isn't it?
YES or NO?
I quite agree. Why is it that you like to make associations between the most recent meaning of a word and the literal translation? Like "Wise Man," is supposed to prove we are not apes, or you are not a Homo sapien because you have a "sin nature," etc.Good -- then in America it's very common to say: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
It doesn't mean we are closet idolaters or are tacitly acknowledging that the sun, the moon, Tyr, Odin, Thor, Frigg, and Saturn* are deities.
* My apologies to LifeToTheFullest -- his post came in handy.
History shows that people, when faced with death, or prison, or punishment, will use secret ways to relate to each other. The catacombs for example. In China its very common to say "bye bye'. So what?

Frankly, Charlotte, I don't give a hoot what THEY claim. He does. Likey or lumpy.Atheists are not claiming that Jesus "sets the calendar."
Flimflammery.Frankly, Charlotte, I don't give a hoot what THEY claim. He does. Likey or lumpy.
Origin of the names of the days
The names of the days are in some cases derived from Teutonic deities or, such as in Romance languages, from Roman deities. The early Romans, around the first century, used Saturday as the first day of the week. As the worshipping of the Sun increased, the Sun's day (Sunday) advanced from position of the second day to the first day of the week (and saturday became the seventh day).
Sunday
The name comes from the Latin dies solis, meaning "sun's day": the name of a pagan Roman holiday. It is also called Dominica (Latin), the Day of God. The Romance languages, languages derived from the ancient Latin language (such as French, Spanish, and Italian), retain the root.
French: dimanche; Italian: domenica; Spanish: domingo
German: Sonntag; Dutch: zondag. [both: 'sun-day']
Monday
The name comes from the Anglo-Saxon monandaeg, "the moon's day". This second day was sacred to the goddess of the moon.
French: lundi; Italian: lunedi. Spanish: lunes. [from Luna, "Moon"]
German: Montag; Dutch: maandag. [both: 'moon-day']
Tuesday
This day was named after the Norse god Tyr. The Romans named this day after their war-god Mars: dies Martis.
French: mardi; Italian: martedi; Spanish: martes.
The Germans call Dienstag (meaning "Assembly Day"), in The Netherlands it is known as dinsdag, in Danmark as tirsdag and in Sweden tisdag.
Wednesday
The day named to honor Wodan (Odin).
The Romans called it dies Mercurii, after their god Mercury.
French: mercredi; Italian: mercoledi; Spanish: miércoles.
German: Mittwoch; Dutch: woensdag.
Thursday
The day named after the Norse god Thor. In the Norse languages this day is called Torsdag.
The Romans named this day dies Jovis ("Jove's Day"), after Jove or Jupiter, their most important god.
French: jeudi; Italian: giovedi; Spanish: jueves.
German: Donnerstag; Dutch: donderdag.
Friday
The day in honor of the Norse goddess Frigg.
In Old High German this day was called frigedag.
To the Romans this day was sacred to the goddess Venus, and was known as dies veneris.
French: vendredi; Italian: venerdi; Spanish: viernes.
German: Freitag ; Dutch: vrijdag.
Saturday
This day was called dies Saturni, "Saturn's Day", by the ancient Romans in honor of Saturn. In Anglo-Saxon: sater daeg.
French: samedi; Italian: sabato; Spanish: sábádo.
German: Samstag; Dutch: zaterdag.
Swedish: Lördag; and in Danish and Norse: Lørdag ("washing day").
What a croc!Flimflammery.
How about:
Reason Day
Reality Day
Science Day
Technology Day
Tolerance Day
Civilization Day
Freedom Day
Reason? What man calls reason, is the devil's treason.
Reality? What so called science bases that on is unknown.
Science? Misnamed.
Technology? Heck, you could gat a whole week out of that. Nuclear weapon day, Abortion day, Bio weapon day, not so smart bomb day, etc etc.
Civilization? Hey, maybe add 'destruction of family day, Sodom pride day, etc....
Freedom??
Hmm. Freedom in the bondage of sin? Maybe that could be a month!
Let's see, how about 12 of them?
Adultery month, Murders month, Blaspheme month, ----etc
No, I was just seeking to reflect reality. When in Rome...or 'when in the sin state..I guess you prefer the days being named pagan gods. To each their own, I guess.
By the way, my last post regarding calendars was meant to be complete nonsense. I am actually surprised you, somehow, were able to make some sense of it and respond to it, partly.

...burka month, iron maiden month, home abortion month, stone your daughter for being raped month, stone your daughter for not being a virgin on her wedding night month...Oh how about the burn at the stake month, strappado month, crusade month, forced conversion month...
Are you saying that wanting to know more about our universe a sin?No, I was just seeking to reflect reality. When in Rome...or 'when in the sin state..
I made a promise to not be unnecessarily insensitive, so I'll just say that I have no idea what this even means.Of course we, as absolute forever rulers of the universe and earth, will chuck out all names that have no good basis.
Meanwhile, what we have is a calendar set to spiritual things! The chief item being Jesus, and the year of our Lord.
Are you saying that wanting to know more about our universe a sin?
It means that when Christ rules with His people, the names of days, and holidays, and etc will be changed.I made a promise to not be unnecessarily insensitive, so I'll just say that I have no idea what this even means.
They don't know. The year is set to Him as best as was possible. Interestingly, if the years were shorter, more like a moon year, since creation, we would lose a few years. Maybe in real time, the calendar may be closer than we think.Except for the fact that historians and theologians agree that Jesus was neither born 2010 years ago nor on December 25th.
I don't think we need old Jewish bylaws as a guide to time....burka month, iron maiden month, home abortion month, stone your daughter for being raped month, stone your daughter for not being a virgin on her wedding night month...
Not in the bible.Oh how about the burn at the stake month,
? What does sextoys have to do with anything?strappado month,
..Not in bible at all. Forced evolution on kids is the devil's game. Probably the same deal with earlier crimes against us.crusade month, forced conversion month...
