  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This song: Build Me Buttercup By the Foundations, it's played on the radio at work....

Foundations - Build me up Buttercup 1969 - YouTube

I have always heard "I'll be a Xylophone waiting for you" though the lyric is "I'll be waiting beside the phone
Waiting for you"

I love doing this. I would have sung it if I could have found an instrumental to the song.
Compare/Contrast. All I could make time for was the lyrics, and I kinda rushed it at the end too. Gotta go to work!

the judgement is in
the war, He did win
the hell you deserved that day, there, he has already been
the nails, gruesome and cold, His hands he did feel
in agony, with screams, He dropped His head while the enemy stood around and leered
from earth, His sound, the Father turned in heaven HIs presence was nowhere to be found
Loved ones gathered around, noone with any notion
shackled by the horror, my heart starts to churn
here it is at the cross i begin to learn

I engaged these thoughts and self dies
the spirit, like a bird, takes wings and flies
and i realize that it was for me my Savior died

Attention all held captive: away from the Son
the Son that shines not only on some
We all have a deliverer of only One
-------------------------------
Did you hear the thunder that day?
Did you see the vision of the cross?
Did you hear about the pain that was dealt
On the day that He paid the cost?

Lies, murder, adultery...only He holds the keys
would you like to ask Him to forgive you and grant you life eternally?

I know I should have spent hell
in my cell
But I was on His time x2

I engaged these thoughts and self dies
the spirit, like a bird, takes wings and flies
and i realize that it was for me my Savior died

Attention all held captive: away from the Son
the Son that shines not only on some
We all have a deliverer of only One x2
so cry out to God. He's the only one who can hear
You've created your own prison
cry out to God. It's His only decision if He will grant you permission to enter His attention
(Chorus)

From the Grits song 'They All Fall Down'

Actual lyric "To popular belief, hell bound in a basket, suckin on their teeth, wound up in a casket."

What I occasionaly hear "To popular belief, hell bound in a basket, suckin on their tit (teet), wound up in a casket."

Apparently, I'm not the only one who mishears this. A buddy of mine whose a youth Pastor did to.

R.E.M.'s "It's The End Of The World As We Know It"

Heard:
I turn 'em into, turn 'em into, turn 'em into flies!

Actually:
A tournament, a tournament a tournament of lies!

Just one of many in that song until I got the lyrics and realized there was a lot I was not hearing correctly.

I knew this thread had to exist somewhere!

My classic one is "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC. My dad's favorite band is AC/DC and told us as kids the lyrics were "dirty knees and the doctor chief". It was so engrained in me that I heard it until college. I was once in the car with my S.O. and I was like "I love this song!" and then sung along, she interrupted "Um, you know those aren't the lyrics, right?". I had NO idea. I texted my siblings, and apparently they had it figured out years earlier but decided to see how long it would take me to notice.

Also, how has "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" instead of "Excuse me while I kiss the sky" from Purple Haze not been mentioned or "Hold me closer Tony Danza" instead of "tiny dancer" not been mentioned?

The lyrics to that song are "Hold me closer Tony Danza", no one will ever convince me otherwise.

Growing up I always though in "Love potion no 9" he kissed a car; but I was told a few years ago that he kissed a cop. I still can't tell what half the lyrics are.

It still sounds like he said car. Makes more sense to me. :p

There was a debate in our church once about part of the lyrics to a David Crowder Band song, "How He Loves."

"Heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss" ...this guy on the worship team thought it was "sloppy, wet, kiss" They actually argued over it. They ended up agreeing that everyone could sing it however they wanted.
