  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you ever thought you knew the words to a particular song, but it turned out that you were mistaken? Maybe you were singing along with the radio at the top of your lungs when friend pointed it out, maybe you discovered the truth on your own, or maybe you simply think the words to a tune sound different than what's in the liner notes. Whatever the case may be, this is a thread for sharing and commenting on misheard lyrics. Feel free to post videos and/or share stories if you'd like.

I'll admit that the line "If mercy was a cattle call" in Seven Mary Three's "My My" sounds like 'cattle prod' instead of 'cattle call'. I know it's really 'call', but I swear it still sounds like 'prod'. And apparently thinking it's 'prod' is a really common mistake for that song.

For the longest time, I thought the lyrics to Dobie Gray's Drift Away were "Give me The Beach Boys, and free my soul. I wanna get lost in your rock & roll and drift away." Although I like The Beach Boys, his seemingly over-the-top hero worship lowered my enjoyment of the song. Oops. Now that I know the truth, I like it better. :D

The Marmoset Song - YouTube

In 1967,during the Hippie Days, and drug use in San Francisco,I lived in San Franciso, while in the 8th grade. The song"Groovin'" by The Rascals came out.
"Groovin' on a Sunday Afternoon" were part of the lyrics. One part of the song went like this:"That would be ecstasy......you and me endlessly.Groovin'".

Well,we thought that they were singing,"That would be ecstasy...you and the..... LSD. Groovin"

Is it not ironic that there is now a drug called ecstasy?

Chicago had a song about an iilicit love affair. The lyrics were,"She' my no tell lover."

Since most affairs happen in motels,it sounded as if they were singing,"She's my MOTEL lover." :)

Paul Young's "Every Time You Go Away". The lyrics were, 'every time you go away, you take a piece of me with you'.

I thought he was saying, 'you take a piece of meat with you'. Never could understand why this was heartwrenching. :p

Also, Michael Jackson, "Billy Jean". I'd hear, 'Billy Jean is not my lover and the Chad is not my son'.

lol... those are great. :D

I thought Michael was saying "Belly Jeans"... in reference to hip-huggers. Later on, I figured that he was probably singing about Billie Jean King instead, and left it at that. I don't think I learned the actual lyrics until I was in high school.

In Green Day's Holiday, I heard "Can I get a married man?" instead of the actual line of "Can I get another amen"

In Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer, my friend always thought he said "Baby, is love gay" instead of the actual line "Baby, it's okay"

I was going to rep you, Miles, for creating this thread... but I can't? Since when!!!?

Anyway.. here's what I would have said in the rep: I was going to do this EXACT same thread last year and never did because when it came time to doing it, I couldn't remember all the songs I "mis-heard." Oh well.

And... now that I'm thinking about it, I can't list any of the songs I'm thinking of because they're inappropriate for the vast majority. :sorry:
