It's very clear, Mike Pence cast his vote to put someone into a position solely on the virtue of her (and her family) having contributed insane amounts of money (200 million). His message is loud and clear - he will put money ahead of those he has vowed to serve, he has no problem breaking his promises to those he is supposed to be serving if someone will pay a large enough amount of money. This is not the way to do the job, he should be serving his constituents instead of wealthy donors who have an agenda of their that doesn't represent the majority of Americans.

That's what people keep saying. But why can't people who have money do a great job? Why is she being rejected simply because she had money?
She isn't being rejected "simply because she had money".

She's an amateur when it comes to the problems facing public education.

We need an expert who is well-versed with the problems with public education.

What we have essentially done was appoint someone whose hobby is show dog breeding to oversee wild wolf conservation efforts for the entire country. They are essentially two different things with only superficial similarities.

Absolutely correct:

An attempt was made to reject her nomination, not because her family has money, rather because the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, both teacher's unions, have a whole lot of money that i they have contributed to many of the Senators voting on the nomination. This would include Susan Collins of Maine, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

Murkowski and Collins are the only two Republicans who voted against the nomination, but i'm sure it's just a coincidence [/sarcasm].

People who have money CAN do a great job, but that's not the issue here. It comes down to two things:
1. She doesn't have the qualifications for the job
2. Having money is one thing, but giving tons of money in exchange for a favor is an entirely different thing, and she's doing the latter

It's not like she's someone who has experience and qualifications and also happens to be wealthy and then people are unfairly wanting to reject her "simply because she has money".

She has no experience or qualifications for the job and from her great wealth she has given $200 million to the same people who are now giving her this position that she has no business being in.

Our government is not supposed to be for sale to the highest bidder, it's supposed to be a government of the people, for the people, and by the people. This appointment of DeVos goes against what America is supposed to be about and it does so as a blatant bribe.
