  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My girlfriend is still new to Orthodoxy and wanted to know why "such an important service is held at such an inaccessible time".

Any help explaining it would be appreciated,.
I am an American college student who's generally up until 2-3 AM anyway. Going to church beats the heck out of screwing around on the internet :p

I actually know some Orthodox people who don't go because it's too late...I'm like - are you mental??? It's the most joyous celebration of the year!!! Obviously, they don't see it that way and that makes me sad and also bewildered. Why do I see it that why and they don't? I have some ideas, but it just makes me sad again...

I think that's part of what makes Pascha so amazing. you are tired, hungry, thirsty, everything is dark and somber, and then all of a sudden you are flooded with light and joy and peace when "Christ is risen!" is first said by the priest. it is, in my opinion, the best example of what Tolkien called a eucatastrophy (for you rus).
