I don't know of any Jews for Jesus what operate in disguise. Not saying they don't exist but that I am not familiar with that mode of operation for them. They work closely with churches, usually are in association with them. They are focused in on bringing Jews to Jesus, the sunday god, not Yeshua, the King of the Jews.

Are you now claiming that the people who work with Jews for Jesus have an entirely different god then you do?

Oh I don't think she is alleging any such thing, just miswording possibly.

Rather, J4J ends up having a Christian-like ecclesiology or congregational halacha, to pick a term as it were, which opposes Sabbath(Saturday) observance among many things Torah which J4J does not advocate observance of.

it was the "sunday god" bit that stuck out to me.

Depends on how far it is taken.... I like the closer you get to the imitating Him, then the better you are in understanding and siding with Him.

Warmly acknowledge your response.

One question, just curious.

As you are a Jewess by choice, through a recognized legitimate halachic process and education, why would the "sunday god" thingey make any difference anyway? It's no biggey to me though. Just curious, sorta'.

I'm not sure what you are asking me (or what my being a convert has to do with the topic)? Vis seemed to be making a distinction between J4J and their "sunday god" and the messianics "yeshua, king of the Jews".

To me, that sounded like she thought each group has a different god. I thought that strange.

I hope we can go back to my topic so I can get some help on this :)

Lady Bug, the best thing for you to do is go and see if you like it. Read their literature, ask questions. You don't need anyone to tell you what to do. If you like the place, stay. If you don't like it, don't go back.

maybe this will help clarify what I'm worried about :)

Actually, We Are NOT Jews For Jesus (Messianic Judaism)

A true Messianic congregation will meet either on Friday evening or Saturday morning, sometimes both. This can be weekly or monthly depending on how big the congregation is.

J4J don't have congregations, they place new Jewish believers in churches nearby, Protestant churches, and I think they are affiliated with one of the Baptist churches if I remember correctly.

The site you linked to is not a congregation, but rather one of a Messianic Jew who believes (as do I) that

I see the Messianic Mov't as a return to Biblical Judaism, removing 2000 years of non-biblical teachings and restoring Torah observance to the body of believers.
If you have found a place near you, look at their website, they will usually state which MJ affiliations they have, when they meet, their beliefs, etc. This should help you in your decision.

I am familiar with many of the congregations and if you want to PM me with the website, I can check it out for you. :)

There is a Messianic synagogue near me, but I need to know if there is a "litmus test" for determining whether this place is a "Jews for Jesus" in disguise? This is very important to me...I'm ignorant in this, help...LOL.
Its a good question to ask.

If its a Messianic synagogue, I seriously doubt it would be Jews for Jesus.

If they are celebrating the festivals of God, then its not JFJ.

Jews for Jesus as you may be aware, is not exactly what it poses to be.

I would want to know if a congregation had ties to them.

I'm sure not a fan of JFJ.

thank you Lulav; ironically the place doesn't seem to have a website

I will call them when I finally have the guts to; it is an anxiety thing. But at least you understand my worries about JFJ.:)

What I would do is visit, unless you have serious reservations about it. It could turn out to be a very good experience. After you've visited a couple times I think that you would be able to put together some really good questions for the members here to help you sort it all out.

Praying for you.
