• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can see that based on your limited ability to be able to understand :) Remember it is the Holy Spirit that will guide us and lead us into all truth. So we do not get our understanding from man. There are a lot of people that do not understand science. They just do not get it. How do you explain that? Because with God EVERYONE is welcome and EVERYONE can understand, from the least all the way to the greatest. In fact we are told that the last shall be first.

I wouldn't put it that way. And the classic example of why not, is the phenomenon of a PFC (professing former christian) What if they actually were a believer, and are no longer? I don't think any and every understanding they ever had magically "poofs" away. (Neither have I found one with a good understanding of Scripture, which suggests to me this is connected to their apostasy. I would like to know more about that but I digress)

Rather, Faith is something that grows, like anything else that is alive. I have encountered people of great Faith, who had almost not read Scripture at all. Of course, when such a person begins taking in the Word of God, their Faith grows rapidly. I have also encountered people who have read a TON of Scripture and a tiny minority even demonstrate a good understanding of much of it, and had very little Faith.

So I wouldn't make the statement Someguy did that I'm quoting here. before I try to paraphrase it, maybe he would like to attempt a more accurate improvement of what he was trying to convey?

Gladly friend. I have typed accurately, though perhaps I can show that angle in a way that better clicks.

Way to avoid what I said.

I am asking for a verifiable instance of someone praying for a mountain to move and then that mountain moved due ONLY to the fact that they prayed. You give me unverifiable stories of a guy doing something completely different.

Not what I asked for at all.

You have asked for proof. I have typed proof of this. How beautiful it is for a child like faith in the truth that all things are possible. The Greeks seek after wisdom and Jews require a sign: but we preach Christ crucified, unto the greeks foolishness, and unto the Jews a stumblingblock.

If a "slogan" promotes the truth of love for all, that is one beautiful and welcome slogan.

A slogan can promote anything. Doesn't mean it will deliver.

And you don't need religion to be nice to people, this "love for all" you speak of.

You've given nothing.

I asked for proof that someone can say, "Dear God, I pray in your name that Mount Everest will move to the Australian outback, amen" and the mountain will move.

And rather than give me even the smallest shred of evidence, you claim that since your stories say that Jesus walked on water, healed the sick and withered a tree, that mountains MUST be able to move due to prayers. Your logic is non-existent.

Mount Everest will move to the Australian outback,
Jesus was not talking about Mount Everest, He was talking about the mount of Olives being thrown into the ocean. The Bible says there will be a new Heaven and New Earth when the Sea will be no more. That is a reference to the Red Sea. Fortunately the Red Sea defied the prediction of Napoleon's chief engineer and failed to drain itself into the Mediterranean. Either way, you gotta do more than pray for that to happen.

The Bible says there will be a new Heaven and New Earth when the Sea will be no more.

Again, going to take more that words to make it so.

Still sounds like the people who actually worked on the Suez Canal accomplished more with their actions than you guys ever will with empty words.

Oh, here we go with the excuses.

The passage has Jesus saying, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

Jesus does NOT say, " If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you, provided that you are praying about the Mount of Olives and you want it to go into the sea, because if you pray for any other mountain to do any other thing, you're just plum out of luck."

Religious faith? No. I do not believe there is a God out there, or anywhere for that matter.

But my beliefs are completely irrelevant. There is, surely, someone out there who does have faith as a grain of a mustard seed. In all likelihood, many such people. So why can't they pray for the mount of Olives to go and throw itself into the sea?
