  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

IIRC, there is only one rank that is used by all 4 branches, and that is Captain.

And to add to Sybaris' note, if you did go through OCS, you would be trained by USMC Drill Instructors, who are called Drill Instructors, not Drill Sergeants. ;)

That about does it for my useless trivia for the day :)

Alright, today I started my first training. I walked/ran a mile and did 10 push-ups. :D Well, it is a start. I might do some more later. I am not use to it so I am quite exhausted. But I decided I'm going for it... I am going in with an open mind so that if chaplain assistent is taken, I will do something else. Study, train, work hard. :) I am still going to research a ton to make sure I know exactly what I'm getting into, but until then, I'm getting in shape and working on my right faces, and left faces, and about faces! ^_^

But question, how do you help the stitch in your side. Do you keep running, or do you have to gradually get rid of it?

Congrats on getting into a routine to get psychically fit! But what do you mean stitch by your side? If your talking about a cramp, it could be your diet, not drinking enough water throughout the day, or lack of certain nutrients. Somethings you can try to do to help stop are breathing in through your nose and out of your mouth so your side muscles don't get in a relaxed/cramped state, or flexing your abs(stomach) while running.

Great news! Saw recruiter today. My pastor went with me. I was so very happy. It was less nerve wracking that way. I got a very high score on my practice Asvab, so I am not really worried about it now (though it is a given I am going to fail electronics and mechanical but I don't care about either one of them). I was told a lot, including what ya'll just told me, thanks so much, and I now have a packet to fill out and forms to get. I will be going to San Antonio sometime this week or next week to take my real Asvab and the examinations required!

The only thing was I had to tell him about the depression I had and the cutting since they would have found it out by my scars at the physical. There was an awkward silence, and I will have to bring medical papers describing all of it... it makes me nervous, but I trust that all things work together for the good. God is in control, if this is to be, it will. If not, then maybe in the future. But it was better now then when I get to San Antonio and they find out that way. Honesty is best, though from here on in, I will not speak unless they ask me a question.

Yes, it was a cramp in my side. Probably because I am not use to it! But I got to run a mile today after all, and I didn't have a cramp. :) But I had to stop at the store in the middle though, so that might have been the difference. I found out I have to run a mile and a half in fifteen minutes or less, do 24 pushups, and 50 situps within two minutes. They said they would work with me to get to that point before I shipped off.

I tell you all though, you probably know this already from experience. But these recruiters are so very nice. He even offered to pick up my ss card, diploma, and medical papers. :)

Recruiters are like salesmen. It's their job to be nice and do their best to promote their "branch of the service" . No disrespect to any recruiters out there- just speaking from my own experience.

Good luck on whichever career path you take but remember- pray, pray, pray. Let God show you what he wants you to do. Don't get discouraged if you're not able to serve due to a past condition. I had asthma all throughout childhood and still do today. I was unable to serve my country through the military, but God has shown me another way to serve- law enforcement. So if the military doesn't work out for ya don't worry, just keep praying.

well, I might be able to take like a six to nine month "well period" to show them how serious I am about this. If they offer that, I might take it. And that way, I will be even more sure that this is the path to take.

Correct.
If you're going to enlist keep in mind that this is YOUR career and YOUR life, not the recruiters. Don't compromise. You might have to wait to get what you want due to an overmanned occupation but don't settle for less. This goes for when you are up for transfers too. I always went where I wanted to go cause I knew what the Detailer knew. Do the research and stand your ground.

this is quite cool. I can't seem to find my diploma, my birth certificate, and the medical place said it would take two weeks for the medical records to get to them, plus a $25 fee! The recruiter said that since I was born in Texas he'd get it for me, he would call the medical place and get my records quickly and without a fee, and that he would call my highschool and get the transcripts. Wow! Double wow!!!

If you are talking about the physical part, I would focus on your running and upper body strength. My husband runs every day, but he is USMC, and they do a lot of PT. I'm not exactly sure what the Navy would expect, but you can probably find out by going to their website.

very true. It will take me at least 3 months before even going to boot camp because of the physical requirements. I was thinking more of the classroom stuff, but I actually have plenty of time for that.
