Mature chat thread.....

Oh my having fun right now.. have felt really lonely lately.. but today on face book the chats are going off like they have not in ages.. yippee..

Pool party was OK. NO hunks there (that weren't married lol). I had a cookie for me and a cookie for dayhiker LOL. I thought it was gonna be a BBQ but they ended up bringing in pizza oh well it was still a fun time.

Today is my birthday (52). I am testing my sons. I wrote it on the calendar but haven't mentioned it. I think they will fail the test and not remember it's my birthday. It's OK but kinda sad. I am going to dinner with my BFF's tomorrow cuz one of them's BD is the 8th. Of course we are going to the restaurant of HER choice cuz she has coupons or whatever. My expectations are just always too high. I went on FB this morning kind of expecting some well wishes. NONE! Then a little while later I got 2 so I guess that's better than nothing. On the positive side though my other BF called me first thing this morning and sang to me and over the weekend I got a card and a 25.00 check from my aunt and a package from my step son, daughter in law and grandkids with stuff they got me from their recent trip to Hawaii so that was VERY nice. These are the times I miss my husband the most, cuz I could always milk mother's day and my birthday cuz they are both before Father's day LOL.

Aww Happy Happy Birthday (hugs).. your birthday did not show on face book?? usually first thing every day I can see whose birthdays it is.. and I go and say happy birthday.. I love leaving notes anytime.. you will have one on there soon now..

younger son remembered and then later in the evening wanted me to take him somewhere with his friends to which I said NO cuz it's my birthday and older son I think overheard me cuz right after that he came in and said "isn't today your birthday?" and I said yes and then he said "Happy Birthday mom" and that was it. He said he looked at his phone and realized but I guess he figured him saying Happy Birthday was enough. It wasn't....and it's not that I even wanted a gift, cuz that doesn't matter to me. I wanted to be thought of....ahead of time....and something nice done for me or share a meal with me, but I ended up going to chilis to get a steak on take out and asked him if he wanted something which he did. Did he offer to go get it? NO did he offer to pay? NO. But he can go get his gf roses (before they broke up) and bring them to her when she gets home from a trip late at night. I get it. NOT

Darn, parents get no respect. Maybe when the kids get to be 30 or so ,,, or their wives think of us!

I am so grateful for CF. I just wanted to put that out there. I have been kinda hanging in the Singles forum, but found this sub-forum that perhaps I need to frequent as well, considering I'm a 'mature single'...lol!!

It has been lonely IRL, but this place has given me a place to read and at least feel like I'm surrounded.

Happy Birthday!

I understand your hurt about not being thought of. Sons just don't seem to understand how much we moms need them to 'do something special'.

A few years ago, I decided to stop waiting for someone to do something nice for me on my birthday, and I started planning 'birthday adventures'. One year I went to the Butterfly Farm in Mass. I lived in CT at the time. Last year I went to the Mass Aquarium.

This year I still have time to plan ahead. I used to hate my birthdays before I started doing this. I'd get soooo depressed. Then someone told me....'celebrate...God's gift of life'..... so I celebrate. So far...each year I've asked one friend to accompany me. Now I still lived in CT at the time. This year.... I hope to have a new friend to giggle with on my BD on an adventure. Or maybe I'll just take the drive up to the Riverwalk..... and people watch. But I will do something to celebrate God breathing life into me...and then breathing life into my spirit so that I was reborn.

Karen, Love your idea about taking the bull by the horns and planning something to do on your birthday. The 1st time I heard of this idea, I was invited to a couple's anniversary party they planned for themselves. It was a great time.

Thanks Dayhiker... I just wish I thought of that years sooner. I wouldn't have wasted so many birthdays lying in bed depressed and feeling sorry for myself. I had such gigantic pity parties in those days... now.... even Mothers Day... I took myself out to a nice dinner with another mother. We had a giggly time. yes..two of my boys called during the day....but my good day did not hing on their calling. One son never did. He just doesn't. I sincerely hope his own children never forget their mother ...his wife... when they get older.

I think you handled it well, and graciously. It's good to be honest we are disappointed.... but great that we can be courageous and get beyond it.

And may I say.... I am soo glad the Lord created you!

No need to ask for forgiveness. I did not take offense I was just saying I don't do that, never have, never will. Well OK maybe sometimes I've griped and complained wah wah wah lol and made sure "they" knew lol. But that doesn't suit me any longer. But try hard as I might, I just still have high expectations IDK why. Ask God LOL. . Anyway life is about choices and we can choose to be unhappy OR we can choose to be happy or at least try to be, so most of the time that's where I'm at. And thanks for the BBM portion. Nice to have some new "mature" people around here LOL.
