I recently found out that one of my cousins had been a marine for 2 years much earlier in his life - I was a young kid then so I didn't even find out about it till the 1st week in December.

The reason I haven't posted in awhile is cuz I got laid off from my job on the 17th and I'm hustling to get work. I hope I get a call soon about an interview. sigh. The last time I was laid off it took 8 1/2 mos. to get work. I'm trusting God to provide, but I have to admit that I'm getting quite discouraged. I have many blessings, tho including still having my house and the greyhounds, so I'm very grateful for that.

My tree is still up and gives me a lift; I'll probably keep it up until this weekend. I also have many fine Christmas cards on display

I took my Christmas tree down yesterday partly because am going away on holiday soon, in the same town but different place so that will be nice to have a change.

Am on less of a downer the last day or so

Ya, the Marines were pretty good years for me. Then I was able to get 5 yrs of college out of the GI bill. That helped a lot.

What percent of ones pay is a medical retirement? Does it vary with the medical reason?

It varies with the percentage of disability...

Since rehab and a new career the last 5 years I no longer receive any type of disability benefits...Which in one way is good...in another...it's gonna be a huge pain when I do retire from civvie job LOL

my tree and lights are still up...though I'm thinking tomorrow is the day they're going to come down...the weather is supposed to be unseasonably warm...YAY!

Prayin for you job hunters! I am thinking about taking my decorations down tomorrow too, except it is supposed to be exceptionally cold tomorrow down to maybe 29? I'm in Arizona and where I'm at it usually never gets that cold except once in a blue moon,....wait !!?? By golly!!! I think there WAS a blue moon the other night! ....I kid.....I kid....lol. but seriously if its THAT cold in the daytime, the outside decorations can wait honey! lol!

I am glad I did decide to put my tree up this year.. I wasn't going too.. but my daughter and I decorated it together.. it was a special time.. it really is worth it doing these things if you can.. depression and sadness robs us and our families.. we must make the best we can of our circumstances.. joy of the LORD is our strength..

Bug helped wiht the decorating and even did some of the outside lights...but you can tell we go a bit nutty over Yule around here...

Trees (yes plural) decorations, lights, baking, cooking...it's the 2nd favorite of my holidays...

Yup, it's cold here too in Calif - even my dogs didn't want to go out this morning! Good news - I have a phone interview on Monday for a possible job - woot!

BTW it SNOWED here today.....in the desert.....in the city I live in.....it melted pretty much as soon as it hit the ground, but nevertheless it DID snow! It's so rare here. The last time it snowed was 6 years ago when my husband passed away. It was the day of his funeral and we had pouring rain, sunshine, hail and snow it was surreal! It was like he was standing next to God saying c'mon God throw down some hail, how about a little snow? it was amazing. but yeah it doesn't happen very often at all here.

I'ts normally about 20 degrees in the KC area this time of year...
today it was nearly 60...
it was warm, strong nearly balmy south winds...sunshine with a few clouds here and there in the sky...

It seemed more like a warm spring day than the end of December...

Quite lovely...and I did manage to get the Christmas lights off da roof and lawn while the weather was nice...

Oh, New Year's is insanity when you work in the taxi biz. Or so they say. It's my first one doing this. I'm scared a bit.

Michelle, are you in the higher elevations of the area? I heard there was snow far east and in some points far west, but near the airport not a flake.

Nope not in high elevation. We are about 40 miles SE of the PHX airport and there were flakes....not lasting ones but they still count lol! But it was also very short lived as well.

Three days before Christmas we had a temperature of 84 degrees. That is warm even for TX.

Right now it has been in the 60's and very humid and rainy.
