  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Today I had to do an online Traffic Safety course (which took most of my day) and I completed it by passing with 100% yahoooo! Done.

One of the interesting factoids that I learned was in regard to how much is a "billion" and then they stated these facts. I just thought they were fun and interesting.

If we wanted to count out a billion dollars, paying one dollar a second, it would take 31 years, 259 days, 1 hour, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds.

To count a trillion dollars, at a dollar a second, would take about 32,000 years.

About a billion minutes ago, the Roman Empire was in full swing. (One billion minutes is about 1,900 years.)

About a billion hours ago, we were living in the Stone Age. (One billion hours is about 114,000 years.)

About a billion months ago, dinosaurs walked the earth. (One billion months is about 82 million years.)

A billion inches is 15,783 miles, more than halfway around the
earth (circumference).

I took traffic safety once and ended up asking a question that the teacher didn't know, which totally threw her and we derailed the whole class. I didn't mean to. I just wanted to know.

For the record, my question was that the law says you're supposed to stop behind the line, so why do they always put the light sensors under the line?

I'm feeling so apathetic lately, and I don't even know why. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for it.

I didn't know this but looked it up. Actually, the sensors are not under the stop line but rather are kind of a diamond shape cut into the concrete before the stop light. The above picture shows the location of a sensor (the article it is from is teaching how a bike can set off one of these sensors to get the light to change.) I always assumed that these were weight triggered but it really is about the car completing an inductive electrical circuit.

If you are interested, HowStuffWorks "How does a traffic light detect that a car has pulled up?"

I think from what I read, just being in close proximity will set it off...but that does seem odd. However, the gov't doesn't always make the most intelligent decisions. Maybe some councilwoman thought this was a more "attractive" solution? Or maybe they don't understand the traffic laws... LOL :)

I think a lot of them are on timers around here, but there's a few that I know if I don't pull all the way up, it won't go off.

That's so you can be fined for crossing the line on a red light! Oh, wait a minute. You are in Atlanta, right? They would never be clever and imaginative enough for a scheme like that. Never mind. :D

OK so I can't really talk to anyone about this IRL but I have to vent about this. I am the admin manager at work. Big title little company. Basically I do the payroll, A/P, A/R and quarterly taxes for the company. Usually I do checks on Wed because we get paid on Thursday, but this week is Thanksgiving so I ran them today. I give them to my boss to sign and he just sits on them til after I got back from lunch. So in the mean time, I happen to check our bank account online for the business, and I start freaking out because I expected it to say we had about 8 G more than it said! So I look up all the transactions and I find that my boss wrote himself a check last Friday! Now, the fact that he did that, in and of itself doesn't bother me, but usually he has me cut him a check. And the other thing is, that he has not mentioned this to me YET! Which is SO out of character for him. Since I figured it out, I put it in our acctg program but I am just left asking WHY???? Like I said USUALLY he tells me he needs a check and/or has me cut him one, or if he's running to Lowe's he will just say he needs a blank check. Also last week he wanted me to transfer funds from our line of credit but I had to tell him we didn't have as much as he was asking and he should know this! Now I don't know how the heck we are going to pay for payroll next week unless we get a check from our vendor which IS possible. But now I just have this weird vibe because of this. Our company is only 6 people and that includes him. I know he is not planning on closing up shop but I just have to wonder what his plan is or if he has one. Thoughts?

I've not been in your situation so no experience. But as you say it does seem to be out of character.

Do you ever give your boss a financial statement letting him know how much money there is available. Was thinking it might be time to give him one.

He checks Peachtree everyday! That's the acctg software we use. He KNOWS. I just cannot for the life of me figure out why he did that. Usually he leaves the stubs too and not this time. And he hand wrote the check to himself.
It's bad enough I have to worry about how to pay my own bills but when I have to worry about the company bills it's a little more stressful. Of course I don't sweat it too much, because it's really his problem. So we shall see what becomes of this. I think he didn't want me to ask him how we would pay next weeks payroll and insurance etc....but it's going to come up anyway, so even that doesn't make sense.

He doesn't play the ponies, does he? That would explain things, if he bet on a horse that came up lame and now he has to cover a debt like that. It would explain why he didn't speak to you about it, since otherwise one would think any company liability has to go through you.

I don't know of course, I'm just throwing a dart at the wall to see what sticks. It's the thought that crossed my mind though.

Well, my son and I are going to drive 5 hrs to my parent's house after work today. 5 hrs is if the traffic isn't bad! Will have Thanksgiving Dinner at my sister's.

Always good to go home. :)

Well, my CF friends have a good thanksgiving and enjoy the taste of all those great foods that our loving God has given us.

no he doesn't gamble. He is a very predictable ordinary guy. Drinks only on occasion, doesn't smoke. His whole life is wrapped up tightly in his kids' sports activities. Both his boys play baseball and his daughter plays soccer. In the summer they also do swimming. They vacation a few times a year when the kids are out of school. I think him and his wife are having issues because their kids are getting to the typical teenage years/attitude and they have coddled them so much that they aren't handling the attitudes well. I honestly don't know what they will do when their kids grow up. His wife doesn't work but is active at the daughter's school. In a couple of years she will be in Jr high. So IDK. He came in this morning late, and has been kind of spastic. He isn't going anywhere for Thanksgiving until tomorrow so IDK why he is acting this way. Still no mention of the check, but I DID enter it and I'm sure he has seen THAT so I guess he doesn't feel the need to tell me cuz I already know. Still odd, but it's whatever. I am grateful for the work we received today.

Who knew that today would be an incredibly busy day for my first day back to my day job? Not this girl, lol. I can't believe I had so much to do, and it was one of those days that in order to do this thing you first have to do that thing and it was constant all day. And STILL I don't know what my bosses plans are. Although this morning he commented on the fact that we need to remember to stop the mail when we won't be here, to which I answered that I was sorry, but I had other things on my mind like whether or not I would have a job. He asked if I was talking about Kohl's and I said no, here. All he said was "I'm sorry about that" and I still had to ask him how do I pay for payroll (which is tomorrow!) and I had to go to our tenants and ask them for the rent checks to cover it. Grrrrr. But I guess at least I do know he has no plans to close up shop but surely he must realize we have bills to pay, right? Anyway it was an extremely busy day and I get to work at Kohl's tonight Yippeee!
Oh and then get this. I requested off for January 12th to go to Supercross with the boys and next week's schedule is out and guess what the ONLY day I am scheduled to work is? Yep! January 12th! I'm like are you kidding me? So now I have to find someone to cover it I guess and I will have no hours for next week (which really is OK except the money part, but still I'm not cryin over that)
