I put "embarking" because I saw that embanti was in the aorist tense and I wanted to convey the sense of "being in the state of what you are doing now", I didn't put that just right, and I still don't really get aorist. I also put embarking because I wanted a verb that specifically meant "to go aboard a boat", as opposed to going onto a horse or into a house or whatever. Maybe I should have put "and boarding him into the boat".

Right now, I'm bumping up against some of my extended families weird beliefs. We had to make the meaningless decision of whether to put shoes in the casket. My sister-in-law said "he doesn't need them because he'll be an angel and he can fly." I said said, "Well, I'm planning to get up and walk around again after I die." &#946;&#945;&#963;&#945;&#957;&#943;&#950;&#969; is usually translated torment. Strong's short definition for basanizo is "I torment, torture, buffet." Looking deeper at basanizo shows "I examine, as by torture; I torment; I buffet, as of waves." from basanos, of Oriental origin - a touchstone (a dark stone used in testing metals), hence examination by torture, torture.

But is torture really indicated by basanos? Does anyone torture metals when they test them with a touchstone? No, metal can't be tortured. So the idea of examining by torture is out, but the idea of examining something to determine it's quality remains. So I take from this that basanizo means "I examine" as if I am a judge or a detective examining a crime scene finding facts. This is what the demoniacs were afraid of, they didn't want the facts to come out. They knew they were guilty.
