“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matt 7:24
I like this verse because it supports different theologies in a general way. Whether one believes that regeneration takes place before faith and without regard to the will of man, or, alternatively, that one can resist grace/reject the gift of faith, and also whether or not one believes that one’s justified state or salvation can be lost, this verse indicates that we have some personal obligation to consciously and wisely respond to Christ’s words, to God’s calling, and then act in some manner.
Coupled with such verses as John 15:5, “Apart from me you can do nothing”, Matt 19:26, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible", and Phil 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, we have the basis of the new Covenant.
