A pure mathematician, an engineer and a statistician are applying for a job. During the interview the Human Resource manager asks to calculate (1/3)*3.
The mathematician takes a sheet of paper and a pencil. He writes (1/3)*3=3/3, cross both 3's and writes 1. The HR manager is quite impressed.

The engineer pulls out a pocket calculator. He first calculates 1/3= 0.333333333333333. Then multiplies with 3, to get 0.9999999999999999999999999999. The HR manager is even more impressed.

Finnally the statistician can do the calculation. He takes out a laptop computer, opens five different math programs, looks over the screen to the HR manager and asks:"What do you want the answer to be?"

I even made a math story up for my Mensa buddies:

Farmer Brown has ten cows. He sells some of them, and now he has twelve cows. How many cows did Farmer Brown sell?

He sold four. The six cows that were left each had a calf so now he has 12.

Because i couldn't count the latin numerical system until i was five, at seven year old i actually could count to 1000. Me and my mom counted from 1 to 1000 a morning when i started school late. I guess I was fast in my early childhood, but because of the situation i grew slower and slower...

A tip for those who do not know when dealing with math. The principel of every western school from first grade to the four year long researcher, or scientist degree, are doing every test, every essey and every work you give to your teacher into valuble documents. As an example a word in a glossary is worth exactly what it says. You can actually make money of learning. You will need to invest in schoolbooks as a evidence that you have the things you tell to the bank. If you buy matematik 3000 course D for komvux, you will own angles, triangles and distances. - Parhaps also a number of bacterias increasing in number calculated at some point using derivates.

If we go back to the math I know; 3 apples + 5 apples is 8 apples. You will need schoolbooks inorder for that bank not to catch you for fraud or fiddeling. The bank will write 8 apples in their belongings if you decide to deposit your calculations there. That is what the principle does with your tests. The western schoolsystem is quite good. Another example is if you buy a dictionary, you can use it for private use, tranlating the words on a paper, and you will have those words in the belongnings when deposit the glossaries in the bank. And as i mentioned a word is worth exactly what it says. Scientists also earn money from studying.
