Sure, but by your argument, men need to m regularly or they could possibly contract this "priests disease". I don't know the statistics of it, but I know many people who went years without doing it and had no problems. When my ship left the dock in the Navy, some the married guys began having problems. Why? They went from regularity to zero, and the medic told them m would get them over it. That's a whole different pont.
MY point is m does affect you physically, throught a chemical rush in the brain. The more frequently it occurs, the better chance there is of altering the brains chemistry, and increases the possibility of masturbation addiction/sex addiction. Granted most of my experience is anecdotal, and therefore irrelevant on this thread.

I heard somewhere that a sin for one person is not a sin for another person, that could be the solution.

That was always my theory. I think attitude and circumstances matter in things like this; the sin is not the details of a physical act itself, but what you're thinking or doing, and why.

Great post, Henrylee100!

I think it's as relevant as anything else presented here. And your point is well taken. That said, most of the arguments here aren't about excessive masturbation - as I think common sense would reveal that doing it 3 times a day for months, years on end would do some serious damage (if not lead to some kind of addiction). Done occasionally/infrequently, I don't see how it is a problem - in part, because I haven't read anything that separates masturbation as the addiction versus the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], and consequently standard-issue sex. It strikes me that becoming addicted to masturbation is similar to becoming addicted to sex. Most people do not become addicted to sex (clinically speaking - our modern "sex culture" aside); similarly, most people do not become addicted to masturbation. It's only when we consider something like this a wholesale sin that we will force ourselves to rationalize theories or cling to extreme scenarios as 'cases-in-point.'

In light of Henrylee100's post, it appears to me that either extreme can lead to problems.

The bible says a man should not 'spill his seed' (i forget where that is written), though I don't see why as a man would never use all that sperm.

You are talking about Onan. He didnt touch, he used teh withdrawl method of birthcontrol, because he didnt want his offspring to be considered his dead brothers.

Masturbation is not mentioned in the bible anywhere i have found.
Onans story is always teh example used. And like i said, it wasnt masturbation, it was rebellion and birthcontrol.

my conviction is simple. its fine to help you resisit temptation to act on sexual urges and desires, so long as you do not lust in your mind and heart in the process. Lust is a sin.
here is an interesting link on the subject

It is very intersting that I said this exact same thing about a week ago and was crewed out several times by several people.... I am gald that the fact of masturbating excessivly can, and will do damage and/or cause an addiction is being a consideration.

Prostrate cancer...theoretically intercourse with [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] should do the same as well.

Actually, that is patently wrong. I know lots of women who touch on a daily basis and have a far higher sex drive than me.

Yes, they are a mix of close friends and ex-girlfriends.

The problem with spilling seed in the reference you did not site is that God had told the guy to impregnate the woman and the guy did not want to so the guy spilled his seed. The sin was disobeying a direct order from God, not touching yourself. The guy was not masterbating . So no touching yourself is not a sin. It is not the 13th commandment.

Um, touching yourself is dull to me and not addictive. "

"The only problem that you seem to forget about is the fact that masturbation IS addictive, just like any other sexual or fleshly act."

Where did you get this fact?

"It is very possible to stop the addiction, but doing so can be very impossible. "

Do you know you just contradictied youself in the same sentence?

"I know that my sex drive and fleshly need/want for sex has increased 10 fold because of my past with masturbation."

How could you possibly know this? You are 19 years old and guess what, your sex drive will probably continue to increase until you are 27- maybe even 45 or 60 if you are lucky.

" Because of this, it puts a problem infront of me and my girlfriend."

Ho Ho Ho!

" WHY? Well for one, I shouldn't lust after her nor anyone else."

Why? How else are we going to be fruitful and MULTIPLY?

"I am sure you of all people realize that we sin with our minds as well. "

Yeah, coveting is a problem.

With that said, if masturbation is not stopped, my bodily will need another release: "

"Dude you got it backwards. Your body will need another release no matter what.

The way God designed it is that if men do not have a release they increase their chance of a painful death from prostate cancer.

"Wanting to have sexual with my girlfriend. This, however, suffers even more consequences of sin. Still the same sin, "

odd usage of suffers

Just exactly What sin is this? Please give us a biblical reference .

"but the consequences will be greater. Not to mention that my girlfriend DOESNOT want me masturbating, but all together wanted me to stop, because it is sin, and it is disrespectful to her and God."

Your girlfriend's word is equal to the word of God?
Does she have sex with you?
If she does not, then is she manipulating you so that you will be sex starved and more likely to marry her?

Please if she does have sex with you wear protection. You are so young and undeveloped. You probably do not want to give here half of your income for the next 18 years.

If She does not have sex with you, how is [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] disrepectful to her?
How do you figure it it disrepectful to God?

"masturbation IS self gradification"
Yeah so?

" and a very selfish and sinful act."
How do you figure? If YOUR GIRL FRIEND won't help you how are you being selfish?

" Men and women can live without it, and thier spirit will be much healthier. "

What is your reasoning in this matter young man?

"I for one can say that and mean it... "
You are not a fully developed adult human being and you can't really judge. Write us again on the subject when you are 26.

"Granted it is always a struggle, but the temptation is beatable."

Ho ho ho!

"To say that masturbation is not a sin is to simply rationalize Gods level of righteousness He wants in our Lives."

What makes you say that?

Where is the commandment "Thou shalt not touch"? I looked and looked and I could not find it.

"Heres an interesting fact: If everyone did not habitually desire the sexual feeling that one recieves with masturbation, there would be almost no rape."

Where did you get the supposed fact?

In a normal society you would already be married and having children. [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] would not be an issue. I used to like to think of the Patriarchs and their wives and concubines.

The problem with spilling seed in the bible reference is that God had told the guy to impregnate the woman and the guy did not want to so the guy spilled his seed after having intercourse with her. The sin was disobeying a direct order from God, not touching yourself. The guy was not masterbating . So no touching yourself is not a sin. It is not the 11th commandment.

i have been skimming this forum for the last 10 minutes and i find a common link between all of them. there is a constant question of "what is sin?"

let me tell you that sin is not something that god said we can't do just because it's fun. he didn't just go "hey masturbation feels good. i can't allow that kind of thing."

sin is something that hurts us. it stabs our souls and deforms it. someone said earlier that an older definition of masturbation was self-destruction. i am an adolescent just turned 15 and lust has attacked me many times. i realized though that it was changing me. it was making me want more of it. it was making me lust more and more and think about girls in different ways that i did not want to. i kept telling myself "this is the last time i'll do it." i'm sure some of you older males know the feeling. as i fell into the act more often, i couldn't stand a day without doing it. it was hurting me and the way i thought.

eventually i cried out to god and he helped me get through the addiction

but the point of this story that most of you are very familiar with was, masturbation hurt my soul and the way in which i think. sin is something that hurts the individual, so therefore masturbation is a sin

there is one reason that god does not want us to touch
god does not want to see us hurt our own souls
he wants to see us live and grow beautifully
we sing praises to him about how we love him and how it was so hard for us to see his son die on the cross
but to him
everytime we sin
is watching us but a nail to our own palms

Is mastrubation a sin? Well one could argue that the stimulation of sexual feelings is a natural thing and it is okay. But the consequense of the act is what I think defines whether it is a sin or not. If the act leaves a person with a sense of guilt then I think that whether or not mastrubation is a sin answers itself.

Almost. Sins is something that hurts you. At least in the case of masturbation. The way I see it a 15 yr old boy is going to have these urges because thats how their bodies are programmed to work. It's not lust attacking, it's nature (and hormones) at work...God's plan if you will. It's important that this happens, it's important to have those feelings and urges because lack of them probably indicates something is wrong. And you will absolutely need them if you ever hope to have a satisfying sex life. Wishing them away is not to your benefit. In fact, from a Christian standpoint it's like saying God errored in making you this way. Now, if relieving those urges via masturbation causes you guilt then yes, stop. If you think it's a sin for you then it is a sin for you. Others can do it and get on with their life without a second thought...no sin there, and nobodies business either. And doing something, even once a day, doesn't make it an addiction. People throw that word around far too frequently. I'd say something is only a problem if it becomes an obsession that prevents you from living a normal life. That's something even daily masturbation will not do.

Only sort of.

You can teach people to feel guilty about things that aren't wrong.

as to weather m is a sin, I'd say if done with a straight calm face with not a single trace of lusting after any particular op sex memeber in the process, kind of machine like, then it ain't. otoh, if you consider Jesus' saying that even if you merely allow lustful thoughts about a woman to enter your mind you've already sinned with her in your heart, then m definetely is a sin most of the time for most people since, correct me if I'm wrong, m doesn't really make much sense and often can't even be done properly if not accompanied by sexual fantasies. I mean in the case of the "proverbial" sailors masturbating to visual memories of their wives it may not be a sin technically, but teens normally don't have wives. Even wet dreams are then a sin of sorts and basically a variation on masturbation cause they are often accompanied by vivid erotic imagery rushing thru one's head. So basically the physical act itself is kind of neutral, just one of those things our bodies do, it's what goes on in our head/heart as we do it that makes it sinful or otherwise.
A somewhat related subject is sexual practices of married couples, you know where is the borderline between blessed sex and cursed sex, it used to be in the past that some churches which have regular priest assited confession, would try and regulate what was allowed in bed and what was not, and often this judgement was down to the priest that confessed you, one priest might rule that mutual m was a grave sin and if you confessed to doing that with your wife, he'd ban you both from communion for a period of time and impose some penance on you to help cleanse your soul etc, while some other priest might not act as harshly.

another follow up point on how some sects treat the subject, far as I know the moonites, a bunch of people based in Soth Korea who believe their leader, a guy by the name of Moon, to be the living incarnation of Jesus, believe that everything done with your mind not focuse on God is a sin and conversely whatever is done with your mind focused on God is not a sin, and thus the only proper way to do penance for sins committed in the past is by repeating those very same actions but with a mind focused on God, I don't know whether this includes murder, but think about how they do penance for m.
