  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am not convinced that we humans can stop the course of climate change, but it seems to be certain that our wildlife balance is going to be greatly thrown off balance by it.

Greater attention should be spent on the things that we can definitely impact. We have a huge impact on the food cycle of life, as well as the plant and environment that impact the entire chain of life.

Thanks for sharing.

How could this ability be evolved from monkey?

Its not an ability. It is simply the fact that humanity is so 'successful' that we now number in the billions and growing and this is putting enormous strain on existing and finite resources that the planet can provide.

I put successful in inverted commas because it is this success that may well bring about our own downfall if something doesnt change fairly soon.....

Why do you error on what is concluded from man's present circumstances? What comes from a foundation of Naturalism is error. The growth in population and time of finite resources were known from the Beginning.

True. I don't think human can be the cause of an mass extinction no matter what we do.

Between the chemicals we use as part of our agriculture potentially having terrible consequences on insect populations, global travel and pet marketing contributing to the spread of invasive species, our overfishing of some areas of the oceans, and our massive reorganization of land habitats, I am surprised we haven't seen more species go extinct.

As Christians, we definitely need to acknowledge that mankind is currently having a negative affect on biodiversity. We need to do more to balance current human needs/wants with the fate of future generations. Short term thinking is the bane of democratic societies.

What planet do you live on? Have you not seen the effect of our polution? Of our use of the land?

It won't last long.
Many humans will be killed by it. Then the pollution stops.

Are we headed for the sixth mass extinction event?
Yes, it's called The Great Tribulation.
I'm currently reading "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, and I gotta say, things aren't looking so good for future generations.
That's old news. The Bible already predicted that a long time ago:

"For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved" - (Matt 24:21-22).

I think you just disproved your point.

Also, pollution stays around for a long time and has long lasting effects. Just because humans go away doens't mean it stops. I sticks around and causes problems, in some cases for a long period of time.

I am.
He suggested that we are the cause of the coming mass extinction.

Please carefully read what I wrote. We have some impact on our environment. All life does. Over population, destruction of land and water, and killing of species involve all life, not just humans.

Humans just have the intellect and physical ability to preserve or lessen the disturbance of a functioning and balanced ecosystem.

It is not directly associate with evolution. We just are the only ones with the necessary traits.

I am not sure it will cause a mass extinction.

Yeah, what life survives will lead to future generations with resistance to all the radiation, toxic land and sea, and all the other nasty byproducts of massive nuclear detonations around the world.

Go evolution. Go roaches.
