  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am.
He suggested that we are the cause of the coming mass extinction.

Yes, animals in and of themselves have caused other animals to become extinct, typically through competition and destruction of habitat. Humans as it were happen to be particularly good at both

Please carefully read what I wrote. We have some impact on our environment. All life does. Over population, destruction of land and water, and killing of species involve all life, not just humans.

Humans just have the intellect and physical ability to preserve or lessen the disturbance of a functioning and balanced ecosystem.

It is not directly associate with evolution. We just are the only ones with the necessary traits.

I do think the worry about extinction of life species is a distraction to those problems we really should work on. EPA's budget and power is unnecessary big. The fact is that we could double the resources of EPA but problems will still exist. So, the thing we should do is to cut the budget of EPA to about 1/4, and let them focus only on the welfare of human, not animals.

And miners were always excessively concerned with the well being of their canaries. After all, what difference in the real world that matters to humans could the death of a mere canary possibly make?

The amount of money allocated to placed on government oversight of the environment is a fair debate, but history has shown that it is extremely necessary. Unchecked, corporations have polluted regions to the point that they are uninhabitable by human life. The heavy toxins have shortened lives. Many companies really don't care about the long term damage that is done.

If it is only about humans, and not other life, we better get going in researching how to make inorganic sustenance.

I know you claim to be a geologist. You are an expert in rock composition. Are you familiar with mining and refining processes involving water? What do they do with the water, and what elements and compounds make.be in it?

The canary died, the miners died.
But the mining continues.

I understand some human activities may cause serious consequences that make human suffer. But we, as humans, will not deliberately kill ourselves once we know the mistakes we did. It will be a self correction process after we really face the consequence. The smogs once happened at LA and London are good examples. Other big cities may make the same mistake again, such as Beijing today. But people will change when they can not breath well any more. I am sure about that.

We made mistakes all the time. But we will not cause a mass extinction.
