All I want to know is, what gives the Catholic denomination the authority to read the Bible and the Tradition it considers to be equally authoritative and then tell me I'm the one who is wrong!?!

Can all teachers (persons, congregations, denominations) do this, or only the singular specific denomination you belong to?
So you answer a question with a question..
do you have an answer, who gives you or anyone else the authority to tell me what I believe the bible says is wrong?

And so, when are you converting to orthodoxy then?

Well let me rephrase, what keeps you from converting to Orthodoxy then, if you beef is with the pope and infallibility?

so you are infallible then?
why is being able to read the Word, listen to the Holy Spirit speak to us make us this wonderful word being thrown around infallable? NO, we are NOT infallable...but we CAN read the Bible for ourselves, and LISTEN to the Holy SPirit....can we not? Do we make mistakes..you betcha we do...and I for one will admit, I have made MANY along the way...BUT when Jesus is speaking to me personally...guess what?? I take note and listen.

Nope but Gods word sure is.. :) I can trust and rely upon Gods word above all else.. That is why He gave His word to us.. If I do have a question and believe me I have lots because I am curious by nature.. I go to my husband and we search the scriptures together.. We pray and seek God.. We ask for Wisdom and God promises us that if we Ask He will greatly supply this for us...

I simply asked the same question of a Catholic that the Catholic asked of a Protestant.

No answer has been supplied.

If the Catholic thinks it's a critical question, surely they must have an answer to it.

Thank you.

So Catholics believe that only the Pope is filled with the Holy Spirit???

WOW
You know the answer to that is NO, why are you all having such a hard time interpreting what I'm saying?

We all have the HS indwelling iwho leads us to truth but that does not mean we all have authority to interpret truth and you know it.

I would have to disagree with the bolded part...
UUUHH and why would you disgree to this? This is scripture taught by Paul. Christ in us the Hope of Glory.. Jesus even said we were to be born of the Spirit. So what do you disagree about this?

I read the Bible for what it tells ME personally. I am sorry if it came across as I was saying YOU personally was wrong. I don't think you are. I think some of the RCC doctrine is wrong. IF that is what you follow...well...but I will follow Jesus who promised to tell me...to seek HIM and HE will show me what I need to know. I am not making myself clear on this.

Here we are with the "I" and "me" again...

So what you basically say is that YOU interpret Scripture based on how you feel, and pay attention to what YOU want to. Do you think the Bible is supposed to mean different things for everyone?

amazing how some questions go unanswered. I asked a while ago about the 1+billion catholics and EO's if every single one of them went to church and attended mass every single time....no answer to that yet...SO what if there is over a billion of that denomination. doesn't make it right still...IF it did..me sitting in my garage would make me a car...

Probably because you rely not only on scripture but on tradition do you not? I rely upon Gods word alone.. I am not much into tradition . I don't believe tradition to be inspired of God.

So the Scripture that says to obey oral Traditions means nothing?

Melody, we all can do that and God indeed speaks to us through scripture.

but none of us can be the author of what he is saying to us.

All I'm saying is truth is not relative, it's objective and if we have a bunch of Christians all reading the same book who have all been baptized and who all have the HS how can we come up with such drastically different conclusions?

Bene, do you reject the Bible...and lean more on the ECF's? That is what I am picking up...The Bible is the ONLY thing that is infallable..men..popes..pastors etc all CAN be wrong..but NOT the Word of God.

How about the men who out of the 100's of manuscripts, picked 27 to be Scripture...were they infalliable?

The traditions that Paul speaks of Is not what the cc teaches today. Sorry.. For Paul either spoke it or wrote it. I am sure He didn't speak differently that He wrote. Being that He spoke from the Power of the Holy Spirit..And being that the Holy Spirit is God and being that God is not a man that He should lie nor repent..

I'm uncomfortable with private, individual interpretion - whether that be by a single person, congregation or denomination. I am also uncomfortable with the supreme emphasis on "I" - whehter that be by a person, congregation or denomination. It's one of the reasons I left Catholicism. A common Protestant proverb: "It's not Jesus and me, it's Jesus and we." IMHO, I am but a tiny part of the Body of Christ, the communion of saints, one member of billions (most now past and in heaven). Like most Protestants, I affirm the one holy catholic and apostolic church, the communion of saints, the community of faith, the mystical union of all believers - rather than the huge emphasis on me, myself, I and a specific denomination (predictably, my own).

My Protestant cent on that...

Thank you!

May God richly bless you and yours in Christ our Suffering Servant in this holy season of Lent.

we don't? WHY? I don't understand that? IF the Holy Spirit can guide the pope in truth..why can't he the average joe?? I am sorry, but I don't agree with that statement.
If the HS is there for us to interpret scripture, then how come we all don't interpret the same way?

are we robots? We are all unique and different, so the Lord speaks to us that way. WHY is that so hard to accept? What He speaks to me..I am not running around spouting as dogma to MELODY'S religion. It is how He speaks to me.

We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Spoken by Paul. Now if our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit where is the Holy Spirit? I would guess in our bodies wouldn't you? Meaning being born of the Spirit and not of the Flesh?
