Go on believing that if you like.

But it sounds to me like an excuse to disobey the laws of the land which say you are only married if you have the license.
Sounds to me like you're speaking from personal opinion instead of experience

In the words of Lucca Pacioli

"The law helps those who are awake, not those who are asleep."

How true those words ring even today! I have done my due diligence in researching all marriage laws by state and have found that there is no law that makes it mandatory to obtain a marriage licences or certificate in order to be married: all states do agree that to be considered legally married by the state the intending couple must obtain a marriage license:

Marriage Licenses » Application » Records » Documents » ID » Laws
Marriage
Common-law Marriage

As Jesus said concerning freedom:

"Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

We see that knowing the truth frees us mentally and physically whereas not knowing the truth will keep us imprisoned mentally even though we be physically set free.

All that means is that the state doesn't care if you just "shack up." They're not going to send the police after you.

But the state is not going to consider you married. Nor will any legal entity that operates under the sanction of the state.

Nor will very many religious entities, most of which must today rely on the state's record-keeping and enforcement means to ensure that they're not breaking their own religious marriage laws.

I never mentioned the police going after anyone or that a biblical marriage means that the man and woman are legslly married according to the state: only that regardless of whether the state, religious authorities or society in general have a difficult time accepting and understanding a biblical marriage: the man and woman are still married in the eyes of God.

A Christian marriage would be the couple presenting themselves as man and wife to the Body of Christ and being recognized by the Body of Christ as married.

But if the state's records indicate that one or both are actually married to someone else, the Body of Christ isn't going to ignore that.

The big difference between the 1st century and now is that marriages back then were community activities. Marriages were arranged--often years before the consummation occurred. The entire community knew who they were and what their histories were. Generally speaking, the marriage met the approval of the entire community and fit the patterns of life of the community.

If that's what you're talking about as a "biblical marriage," then fine.

The main use of the state's process to the Body of Christ today is as a bandaid to the fact that marriage is a broken process even within the Body of Christ.
