  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can honestly say I've never seen a chicken cross a road. Have you? I think it's just malicious gossip and unless we can find some concrete proof we should just leave the poor chicken alone instead of questioning her motives.

Anymore questions? Go on give me another...

Thanks for taking pity on me.

What do you do for fun?
I play rugby and mixed lacrosse. I bash the drum kit rather effectively. I listen to lots of music. I play cards and various other cool games and I drink beer with friends.
sb573 said:
Whats your fave colour
Subconciously it's probably blue. 99% of my clothes are some shade of blue and I have to make a concious effort to try and buy clothes of a different colour. I try not to have favourites though
sb573 said:
What colour hair do you have?
Very dark brown, bordering on black.
sb573 said:
What is your fave tv show?
I try not to have favourites but I like: Coupling, Green Wing, Scrubs, Spooks, Hustle to name a few. I don't watch T.V. much anymore though.
Markus6 said:
Are you upset that no one is asking you questions?
Not upset, just disappointed.
Markus6 said:
Are you really as weird as you've managed to come across in just 3 posts?
I didn't think I was but then I am answering my own questions  .

what card game are you the best at?
I'm pretty useful at poker though me and my friends don't play that much. When we were meant to be revising we play bloke (censored name for the game because all blokes are *word that questions your parentage*), contract whist and black lady so much that we are probably the best in the world (though I'm no better than they are).

No idea, let me think about that one.
sb573 said:
how tall are u
5'11". Six foot when I want to sound impressive.
sb573 said:

Some form of white, thrilling.
sb573 said:

Typing and computers whirring.

Why did you move to Texas, of all places?
Slightly long story:

In my first year of university I won an award with a company. As part of that award they gave me vacation placements in different offices of theirs around the world each summer. My first summer I spent two months in Abu Dhabi, the second summer I spent two months in Houston and the third I spent two months in Singapore. When I graduated they asked me which office I wanted to work in and of the ones I have visited, mostly due to the friends I'd made at my church there, I chose Houston. I had also met a girl there and we had kept in touch so she might have had something to do with it though I tried to convince myself that she didn't and we broke up a few months after I moved there anyway.

I see.

That sounds like good reasons. :p

I'm sorry you broke up; heartache sucks.

So, how long have you been living here and do plan on staying?

Unfortunately there wasn't much heartache on my part, mostly just relief.

I have been here nearly 16 months. I have a visa for another 3 years and have no plans to leave yet though I want to get a new job so we'll see what happens. Long, LONG term I think I want to make my home in England.

Well, that's good, then.

I have been trying to figure out a way to live in England myself, but it seems too difficult if one doesn't know someone who already lives there. Who knows, maybe I'll figure it out in the long run.

So, are girls beating down your door trying to get you to go out with them or what? :p "I loooooooooooooove your accent, Markus."

Okay, seriously: what sort of company do you work for? What is your favorite kind of beer? Where's your hometown? Do you get to see your parents very often? How many siblings do you have? Why don't you have a photo up?

I do get quite a bit of that. Most recently when trying to apply for an identity card for work. I couple of funny stories:

I worked briefly with the youth at our church and got to know some of them. After a Sunday service once I went with some friends and some youth to a restaurant that was close. Whilst ordering my food at the counter the girl who was serving said, "Please sign here and you're accent is beautiful". Smiling like a dork and pretty full of myself I walked back to our table sat down and said (cockily), "That girl just said my accent was beautiful". Then one of the youth said, "Dude! She's 15, she's my age!" Cue rapid ego deflation.

Another time I was at a supermarket ordering a sandwich from their deli for lunch. I remember the order involved "tomato" which obviously sounds very different the way I say it. When I'd finished the lady asked me to repeat, so I did. Then she said, "Actually heard you the first time, I just wanted to hear it again." Well I'm glad I provide entertainment.

Unfortunately entertainment is all I can provide as there is someone who would have a serious issue with me going out with a girl (I was single when I started this thread I swear!)
Okay, seriously: what sort of company do you work for?
They do marine warranty and offshore engineering. I work for the part of the company that does detailed design of oil rigs.
What is your favorite kind of beer?
English style cask ale, which I miss a lot. Second place would probably be Trappist Ale which is also the most holy kind of beer. Fortunately there is a lot of good beer in America (just the more popular stuff is awful). I like pretty much everything St Arnold's, the local brewery, produce and they do a cask ale too .
Where's your hometown?
I was born in York (the original) and I love the place! I was brought up in Ossett (near Wakefield) and my parents now live in Cleckheaton (near Bradford) but home is probably Houston now!
Do you get to see your parents very often?
I saw them at Christmas and it was great. It's probably about twice a year right now. We're meeting up in New York this summer
How many siblings do you have?
One sister.
Why don't you have a photo up?
I'm not sure. I think I might be scared someone will recognise me, report me to my church and get me excommunicated as a heretic.

Over 5 months. Valentine's day will be exactly 6 months since our first date.

What kind of music do you like?
Rock! My first love and still my favourite band is Led Zeppelin and I like a lot of old stuff. For my birthday I got the new albums by Coldplay, Keane, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and Snow Patrol.
Have you ever been on a scavenger hunt?
I did one this year for a friends birthday. We got really lost on the first clue because my friend who was organising it didn't know the difference between a football (soccer) pitch and a rugby pitch.
