Yeah, they're supposed to be appropriately vague, and simply observe that "we can't know the day or the hour, but we can know the week/month/fortnight/etc." One of the easiest Scriptures in the Bible to get around.
I know I will. Our Lord says that nobody knows when. You say that you know when. So yeah, I'm scoffing.
Or at least just as they've done all through history when yet another date for our Lord's return comes and goes without incident.
Yep, it says watch. It doesn't say try and figure out His schedule ahead of time.
The idea is to expect it every day, and to live as though the Lord will return tomorrow, because one of these days He will. It isn't telling us to contrive long strings of pseudo-Scriptural flapdoodle to "prove" that the Lord will return next Thursday and then look like mullet-heads deluxe when our prediction turns out to be as bogus as a $17.345 bill.
Not the point at all. The point wasn't that they didn't know beforehand when Messiah was coming, but that He came and they didn't rush to His side.
It says watch and you won't be taken as though by a thief in the night. That doesn't mean that you'd figure out when the thief was coming, it means that you'd be watching and see the thief before he can break into your garage.
You'll get the chance to show how honorable you really are. But if you hold true to form for date-setters, you'll either claim that whatever it was you predicted actually happen and only the unco spiritual noticed it, or that you failed to carry the 7 or didn't allow for the procession of the equinoxes and more your dead-certain date ahead a few weeks/months/years. I hope that you're a better man than that.
No need. Two more weeks tells the tale beyond any need to argue about it. I'll just kick back and... watch.
And again, in another couple of weeks the discussion becomes moot. The prediction either hits or it does not.
Why? I don't see any reason to do a lot of repenting if the Lord isn't going to return, or at least we're going to have a "rapture", next Thursday. I mean, it isn't like I'm going to die or anything, is it? Think of the fun I might miss if I started repenting now.
If the new pope "did away with" the celebration of the Eucharist, then most Catholics would sadly shake their heads because the pope had gone off his trolley, and continue going to Mass anyway.
