Ok, I have gone on one of my thinking crusades. I have some questions on some things that I've read today on various subjects. I was hoping that I could just jot down my questions and get some ideas, advice, answers...whatever help I can get. :)

1. Is there any speculation or fact has to the time period between the fall of Adam/Eve and the flood? Curious to know
2. The story of Noah, is that just told in Genesis of which Moses was the author of? Was Moses the prophet of the story of Noah, or was he given the story through documentation. Did Noah write down any of his story down or was his story just given by oral translations on down through history?

I was thinking, if Noah and his family were the only ones left on earth after the flood. Wouldn't Noah and his family be considered the new "Adam & Eve"? So, to the evolutionist that should be the beginning of mankind?

3. Also, I have been wondering this for a long time now....why did some of the people in the OT live soooooooooo long? Or, could that just be a difference in how a persons age was calculated back then to the way it is calculated now? Can you imagine living to be 700 years old??? Yikes, I wonder what our bodies would be like then...like a shrivled up raisin....LOL!!!

4. Who wrote the Koran?....Muhhamod? and when was the time frame in relation to when the book of Revelation <-------( notice NO S???
i.p.emsmiled.gif
, I've been told that is a pet peeve of some christians. Putting a S on the end of Revelation.) was written? Am, I to assume that the book of Revelation is the last book written of the bible? If so, I was thinking. (I might ramble on this thought, but bear with me)....If Muhhamod studied the bible thoroughly and might had some different thoughts of things, warped ideas or was just a strange cookie. Interpted it the wrong way , in lots of ways (i'd assume). Had a personality of desiring power , ultimate power. Wouldn't he have twisted things around to suite his needs and desire and created/wrote the Koran? When I read this passage I think of him predicting the end times. Just like Revelation does in the bible. Is he trying to immate Jesus ?

Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace. (Note the verse number!)

Thank you for helping this new young christian try and understand :D

God Bless!

Moses wrote the Pentateuch after the flood as God inspired him.
If God said people lived that long, then they did. You have to consider how much closer to purity they were. It is sin that causes disease and illness. We lived in a sin cursed world.
Noah was not the new Adam. When God created man, He created Adam. Otherwise the Bible would tell us so. God is not the God of confusion.

Mohammad wrote the Koran around 625AD.

1. Is there any speculation or fact has to the time period between the fall of Adam/Eve and the flood? Curious to know

Yep, the generations and ages of the people are in the Bible. You can know exactly how long the period between the fall and the flood was.

2. The story of Noah, is that just told in Genesis of which Moses was the author of? Was Moses the prophet of the story of Noah, or was he given the story through documentation. Did Noah write down any of his story down or was his story just given by oral translations on down through history?

I think you are asking if the Biblical account is literal or if it might have a lot of errors. The truth is, although it doesn't have any errors, it might not be the whole, literal, detailed account of the time on the Ark. It doesn't have to be the whole, literal, detailed account because we probably just wouldn't understand it all anyway. The fact is, the earth was filled with wickedness, God washed it clean through a flood, He provided for the repopulation of the earth and promised never to destroy by flood again.

Two theories: 1. They used a different calendar. 2. As genes were replicated over and over they because weaker and more flawed and people couldn't survive as long because our bodies wear out too fast because our genes aren't working the way they were originally designed. There's a third theory, that God saw that having very long lives led people to waste their years on wickedness, so God shortened our lives so we will take life more seriously and not waste so much of it.

4. Who wrote the Koran?....Muhhamod? and when was the time frame in relation to when the book of Revelation

The Koran/ Quran was written over a period of decades during the 8th century AD, long after Revelation was complete and widely distributed throughout the world. Mohammed had some issues, including what we would consider pedophilia and delusions, and throughout the Koran, he constantly changed his mind about things God supposedly revealed to him. However, the verse you quote from the Koran DOES NOT exist. It's just one more of those internet hoaxes.

Newbeliever, I will try to answer at least a few of your questions.

First, I am not aware of any mention of the passage of "time" between the Garden of Eden and the Great Flood. Perhaps a search of the "Book of Enoch" or some other ancient "history" might give you at least some clues.

Second, you are correct that Noah and his wife are the common ancestors of all living humans. But, so are Adam and Eve. So, since historians have a record of the generations between Adam and Noah, they generally go back to Adam. Besides, Adam was absolutel perfection from God's Holy Hand, while Noah was just a great man of God. I vote for Adam!

Now, about the long lives of the earliest men. I can only guess, but it is my opinion that those men were so close to Adam (some may actually have been living while Adam was still alive) in generational terms, and he was created perfect in every way, that it took a long, long time for death to worm its way into them. Biologically, Adam was perfect before the fall, and only slightly imperfect after that event, and his decendants were so near his own near-perfection (biologically speaking) that they just naturally lived long lives. I could go on in this vein, but I'll leave my guesstimation there for now.

Next, I do not have the slightest idea who wrote the koran (quran or qurran), and I do not even care.... Nuff said..... It was written during the middle ages, sometime around the 10th or 11th Centuries, I believe. Personally, I figure Mohemmed was a shill for Satan. The devil found this guy, fed him some devils-food tripe, and turned him loose on humanity.

Concerning your quote from the koran, you have fallen victim to an "Urban Legend." The actual verse found at Chapter 9, verse 11, as translated by a guy named Yusufali, reads,

YUSUFALI: "In a Believer they respect not the ties either of kinship or of covenant! It is they who have transgressed all bounds."

The quote you referenced does not exist in the koran. It is pure fiction, probably made up from the mind of some person with too much time on his hands and an overwhelming desire to salute the flag. In fact, I searched the quran for "eagle" (using their data base search engine, for what it is worth), and did not get one single hit. Apparently, the word "eagle" is not mentioned anywhere in that book.

Oh, well (sighs longingly....)

Hope this helps in some way.

You can add up the years that everyone lived, and get a pretty good idea. You can't be precise because we don't know how old Adam was when he sinned, just how old he was when he died.

Mostly covered. But I see your point about Noah. All the evolutionists like to point to Adam, but there is a choke point in the human tree, and so an even more recent common ancestor to all humans is Noah.

You have seen some theories, here's the one that I think sounds most plausible, although I suppose it could be a conjunction of one or more. Don't get lost in the details though, because lack of understanding HOW something happened is not a reason to lose belief that it DID happen. Genesis describes a "firmament" which many creationists believe was a barrier of water vapor surrounding the planet. This is where much of the water for the flood came from. This created quite the greenhouse effect, as well as filtered out the UV Rays and free radicals. This filtration of the sun prevented much of the damage to cells of all creatures, and thus allowed tremendous lifespans. Did you know that many lizards today grow throughout their entire lives? Now, just for fun and games, speculate what these would have become if they lived ten or more times longer?

Mohammed did write the Koran. Here is a brief overview. Allah was the god of Mohammed's tribe. At that time the Arab tribes worshipped many different gods, and Allah wasn't even the chief god. The tribes even worshipped Allah around the big black cube in Mecca before Mohammed was even around. Mohammed had a series of "revelations" (demonic?) from a spirit which he was very fearful of and never saw, and said spirit claimed to be giving him a revelation from God. I could go into much more detail, but I don't want to stick my foot in my mouth. The Book of Mormon is a cheaply plagarized and inefficiently disguised knock off of the King James Bible. The Koran isn't even close to the Bible, in any language, in any form. It's safe to say that the Koran is not a result of a twisted interpretation of the Bible.

One thing to keep in mind is that it wasn't just Noah and his wife on the ark. His three sons and their wives before the flood were also there. Their wives having parents who died in the flood.

So genetically, Noah and his wife were not the new Adam & Eve because there was the genetic contribution of many more people.

Ohh yeahh, that's a great point. So the family tree is only pruned on one side, Noah's. All the daughters-in-law are still wide open. That's a boat load of genetic diversity. Good post!!!

It may have been writen down before Moses, but we have no evidence of this. I'm thinking Noah had bigger fish to fry after the complete annihilation of civilization as he knew it than writing his autobiography. Oral tradition is our best edumacated guess.

These two are related questions.

The time between the fall and the flood is estimated by the ages in geneologies which we guess were transmitted by oral tradition.

lambslove mentioned earlier that the way years were calculated may have been different from the 365 day calendar that we use now.

Most ancient cultures seem to define their years based on the agricultural seasons but maybe they had a different method pre-flood. In the middle east, the seasons may not be as clearly defined as in temperate areas if we assume that the climate is similar to what it is like now.

There may have been some environmental difference between the pre-flood and post-flood environment that caused either the rapid decrease in lifespan (from 600-900 to 120) or the lengthening of the agricultural seasons. Or maybe they changed the way years were calculated.

Muslims believe the following

Wikipedia : Qur'an
...
Muslims believe that the Qur'an is the literal word of God and culmination of God's revelation to mankind, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over a period of 23 years by the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel).
...
Muhammad, according to tradition, could neither read nor write, but would simply recite what was revealed to him for his companions to write down and memorize. This tradition of memorization still exists today among Muslims. Adherents to Islam hold that the wording of the Qur'anic text available today corresponds to that revealed to Muhammad himself; words of God delivered to Muhammad through Jibreel (Gabriel).

The very word Qur'an is usually translated as "recital," indicating that it cannot exist as a mere text.
...

Muhammad died around 632 AD, to give you a time frame.

As Matthan told you already, this is an urban legend.

Snopes is a good site for checking out if the e-mails you get are urban legends. I find my Christian friends seem to fall victims to urban legends quite easily, usually because urban legends play to their sincere concern for others.

I've heard this theory as to why people lived so long. Before the Flood it did not rain. The ozone layer was pure and there was a dome that circled the world that would release a fine mist every morning and this is where moisture came from. Scientists, although they date it weird, suggest that when this dome burst, it released the water that would start the Flood.
But before the Flood, the radiation levels of the sun did not pound the world nearly as bad as they do now, so people were not whithered down by UV rays and such, but after God burst this dome and released the Flood, then our skin and bodies were open to the harmful rays of the sun and thus this gradually shortened our lifespans.

One thing to keep in mind is that a certain level of UV light hitting our skin is essential to our health. UV light reacts with cholesterol in our body to form vitamin D.

Darker skin is a result of more melanin which is a pigment that absorbs UV light. Some darker skin folks who live in areas with low sunlight suffer from rickets which is a vitamin D deficiency resulting in softening of our bones.

Maybe everyone before the flood had rickets or vitamin D was produced natually by humans before the flood. Or maybe the Aryans are right and the pre-flood humans were all really pale-skinned (low melanin) to take advantage of the minimal UV radiation of that time. Lots of possiblities.

 I know God is not the God of confusion. I do know that I AM the one confused at times. Just like we can't image the greatness of God, I can't image myself knowing all of what is in the bible. My desire to know is very high, which probably is a hinderance at times, but I am just trying to learn.

Take care and God Bless!

Studying scripture is sometimes hard and confusing. We serve an amazing God who is more than we can ever imagine. The more we study the word and God, the more we realize how much of him we will never understand. I encourage you to press on with the questions and desire to learn, because although searching to know the word can be confusing at first, knowing Christ and his word is eternally rewarding.

P.S. - our God is not a God of confusion was said in the context of Paul speaking to the Corinthians abous speaking in tongues, and the confusion it can bring when done improperly.

LOL.....Nope, just a very inquistive new christian needing :help: understanding. I just got saved in February at the age of 36 years old. So, I have 20+ years to catch up here. is it possible??
Absolutely!

I understand where you are coming from...I spent many years away from my faith too, it has been a year and a half since I have returned. Talk about the journey I have had in just that time frame - WHEEW! I look back and not sure how I survived! I can tell you, I have had all these questions and more. Piece of advice? When I get really stuck on something I heard, I pray for knowledge. Sometimes I just have to put it aside and come back later. Sometimes God has to take us a few places before we can fully grasp the answer to the specific questions we are seeking (not always - just sometimes) IMHO. I encourage you to test everything against prayer and the Bible that you hear. Sometimes people have different perspectives as to where they are at in their spiritual life. This caused a lot of frustration for me...I did not grasp this for a while. Keep your relationship with God strong! Let that be your guide. He will not fail you, He promises.
