To answer #3:

Personally, I think it's a combination of a couple theories.

Theory 1: Noah and his grandfathers all the way back were very close genetically to Adam, who was formed perfectly. Not enough time had passed for the genetic code of humans to break down to the point of shortening the lifespan. Still, all things being equal, not enough time passed from before to after the flood to account for the drastic drop in age, either, but it's a start.

Theory 2: Before the flood, earth was surrounded by water. This is actually a really intense Biblical study that I don't completely understand (only partially), but it has to do with the deeps and the way God formed the earth. Anyway, this water is what God broke loose (floodgates of heaven and all that) to flood the earth, and the water did not return to where it once was (around the earth). This water helped block out a lot of harmful particles and rays from the sun, as other people have already stated.

Theory 3: The Nephilim were the offspring of the "sons of God" (angels) that mated with human women, aiding the breakdown of the genetic code and the increase in immorality, which is why God created the Flood in the first place (see Gen 6:4 and, if you want, the Book of Enoch). That is also a long, involved study.

Theory 4: God deliberately shortened the lifespan of man. Genesis 6:3 says God shortened the lifespan of man to 120 years.

I think these four theories, when combined, help explain why man's lifespan shrunk so drastically and why the first humans lived so long.

 I know God is not the God of confusion. I do know that I AM the one confused at times. Just like we can't image the greatness of God, I can't image myself knowing all of what is in the bible. My desire to know is very high, which probably is a hinderance at times, but I am just trying to learn.

Take care and God Bless!

:prayer: I know you are the inquisitive bee at this stage of your Christian walk, but sometimes its best to get a sturdy foundation of the bible before we press to understand the details and arguments surrounding it. It can sometimes cause us to be 'wishy washy.' Likewise there is nothing wrong with wanting to know, this will come in due time. I used to think the Bible was impossible, and it kinda was until I started to grasp the single most important thing: "to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified" (Paul, 1 Cor 2:2). Desire that the most, lay that foundation built on the solid rock of Christ and pursue the depths. You must go deep before you go wide, otherwise you'll be pretty shallow. :)

I'm praising God for you! You are an encouragement to me and I pray that you will grow into a strong Christian. :prayer:

I want to reccomend a book to you: Knowing God by J.I. Packer. I think you will find it worthwhile at this point in your walk. It will discuss a lot of things you may have questions about. Also you must get No Easy Road by Dick Eastman!! This book is way awesome!! I Highly reccomend it to anyone!!

Did Noah write down any of his story down or was his story just given by oral translations on down through history?

I have an interesting tidbit of Ancient Near East history for ya. Those who have done research into Oral Traditions among secluded bedouine peoples have found by and large Oral Traditions passed down from generation to generation are highly reliable. Pick up this book for an overview of various subjects being tossed around by scholars. It gave me a headache in my Ancient Near East History class, but its proven very useful in the end.

Hello TLE,

Thank you for your words of wisdom. You are right, makes sense to build the foundation in Jesus Christ. He is our rock! I want to anchor myself right next to Him for the rest of my life. I am so amazed at the things he has done for me so far. Without Him I wouldn't have been here today. I just want to please and learn ALL that I can about Jesus. I am going to get the No Easy Road book to read. Thank you for the recommendation. :)

God is good ALL the time....ALL the time God is good!!!!

Thanks again for your words, they helped me focus better,

God Bless!
newbeliever :)
