Personally goth/industrial metal isn't my cup of tea. I always feel that bands that have to push or overdo a certain kind of image are trying to compensate for something else which is missing.

In the light of Luke 12:6-7 I would say that God takes an intimate interest in our lives and therefore does care about what we listen to. There are of course much more important things in the world than our choice of music we listen to. People can blow these things up out of all proportion and at the end of the day, there are things which are more important.

I think it is a sin, if cradle of filth is singing about raping the virgin mary and hanging Christ and manson is saying "I wont be a slave to a God that doesn't exist" There is something wrong, I think God cares what we listen to and a second thing, why would we listen to it if it didn't relate to us? Yea the music rocks and the voices are cool, but the words aren't and thats what really matters

That is awesome! The second I read this topic, thats the first verse that poped into my head. And NOONE has touched on it since you said it! It is pointless to say (paraphrase) "Can I get away with this?" cause seriously, thats what I am seeing in this thread. And that is NOT the question one should be asking themselves....selfishness is the silent killer.
Now another thing to chew on that hasn't really been brought up, what kind of witness are you when some kid who does not know God personally, who also listens to manson, looks at you and sees you listing to that stuff, maybe even sining with him, and then thinks to himself...'well that guy listens to manson and is a Christian?' i guess i could be a Christian too...and then what kind of Christian will you disiple when they think, 'Hey I can become a 'christian' and not have to change anything about myself...'
another thing the word 'blameless' is in the New Test, 14 times... that itself should strike at you...
but this is one that really sticks out.

That whole book is good, and if you go a few verses above that one, there is some more awesome stuff.
So in a nutshell, you can do WHATEVER you want, but what kind of a witness are you? But most importantly, is what you are doing with your life helping the Kingdom of God?
Manson, he is a no go in my book. and get made at me if you want, but I myself would question how is your relationship with the Master of the universe, if I saw you listing to that junk with a cross around your neck.
Keep in mind, Matt 12:33 'a tree is recognized by its fruit'.

Oi, more proof of the simplemindedness of Christians, we are only as good as our teachers.

Manson is an amazing ARTIST. He knows what would sell, so he did it. His music is pure genius along with his origional vocal combos to go along side. He has added a lot of diversity to that style of music. As a musician, I respect his music and what he's done in the music industry.

Now before everyone goes flipping a lid and starts flaming me. There is the other side to this. Though his music is awesome, the lyrics and message inside the music is not so great. I don't go around promoting his music telling people to listen to it. I listen to it mainly in the studio or in my own house, but not outside of there. I am happy that he has moved away from the "hate God" though.

He is in no way a "satanist". As Mr. Pious said, that is one of the excuses Xian's make when they don't like something. "Oh, he must be a satanist since he's obviousely not Xian and tells people to hate God" I especially like the ones when they wanna blame the devil on everything too... funny stuff. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I think it's really pretty simple. If you have to ask the question whether or not something is wrong, odds are pretty good that it is. The word of God is written on our hearts and that feeling of uncertainty may be the Spirit trying to tell you something. And just because we may not give in and murder or rape someone because the music told us to, does that mean the music is harmless or that listening to it is okay? If a person is forsaking the things of this world with things of God as the bible teaches, listening to music like Manson or anyone else that glorifies things of this world should invoke a response of uncertainty.

I disagree with the excuse "as long as you don't give into it and you're rooted in your belief, there should be no problem". To that I say you may be rooted in your belief, but are you growing in Christ? There's a difference between believing in Christ and serving Him.

wow, old topic revived. I could care less.

It's all about style. I have a "believer" friend, he won't say he's christian because he has the impression that most christians are bible thumping psychos, no offense. He doesnt listen to manson, but he listens to Slayer, Demu Bergeria or whaterver, and other metal and black metal. It's just his style. He likes the sounds of the scaryness and anger.
Besides, if you've ever seen manson on tv, like talking. He's quite a smart man, scary tho.

Well terrasin, I somewhat agree with you. Manson definitely did have a big impact on metal, and he's definitely not the worst out there musically. Not all of his songs show an amazing amount of creativity though. In the end, if you are convicted of it, it is wrong for you to continue to listen to it.
