Don't start on the history issue.
Too late, I already did. And... don't tell me what to do.
Owning slaves, oppressing women, and duels in the middle of the street were once acceptable parts of society.
So, owning slaves is now akin to carrying a bag? Give me a break.
Besides, my point was that the idea that men's fashion accessories are set in stone is absurd. They change all the time, they have been changing for thousands of years in hundreds of cultures.
So your claim that carrying a purse means a person is adopting/embracing this "new" "metrosexual" stuff is just not true. Because men have historically (before anyone ever heard the term "metrosexual") carried their loose articles in bags. And those bags used to be called purses. Even on men.
My problem is not simply that men are carrying purses, but the adoption of the mextrosexual trends in our society. Here is why I take major issue with this.
1. It is an embracing of every aspect of homosexual culture save the intercourse parts.
Carrying a bag - even a purse - is not "embracing every aspect of homosexual culture"... It is just carrying a purse.
You might as well go ahead and judge everyone as gay who carries a bag. It's unfair stereotyping.
2. It saying that being a masculine man is somehow inferior, and that men should strive to be more feminine.
No, it's not. It's saying that some men don't feel the need to exhibit their "masculinity".
I have an uncle, for example, who is somewhat of an effeminate man. He's a musician and very artistic. And if you didn't know him, you might think he was a little light in the loafers. But he's not. He's got a wife he loves, 4 daughters, and he's a solid Christian.
By your standards, my uncle probably wouldn't be "masculine" enough. But he is who he is. And gender stereotyping or conforming to the gender stereotype would take something away from my uncle. It would force him into a mold that he doesn't fit.
Just because a man is a little more effeminate than the high school football coach, doesn't mean he is gay. Nor does it automatically mean he is "embracing" an abberant lifestyle. It just means he's satisfied with who he is and doesn't feel any need for arbitrary fashion rules to declare his gender.
3. It is all done for selfish "look at me" motives. We have already established there are acceptable ways for gentlemen to carry extra stuff they may need, and a purse aint it.
Give me a break. You've established it in your own mind.

"We" haven't established anything. IMO, gentlemen can carry their extra stuff any way they choose. If they want to tie it in a turban and wrap it around their head, stuff it down their underwear, carry a backpack (btw, what makes backpacks acceptable for both men and women?), or carry a purse, they should be free to do whatever suits them best.
