  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's "Black Friday", the busiest shopping day of the year in the temples of Mammon.
Adding to the usual danger of 50 acre parking lots overflowing, Walmart has declared war on Dollar General in the ongoing Corporate Globalist Takeover trend.
Shoppers are advised to curb their enthusiasm in the escalating tensions over parking places & lengthing fast-food lines.

Its a jungle out there, people! Be safe, & God bless.

Drove by a Walmart this afternoon in a small town and the parking lot was overflowing. There is NO WAY I would shop today even if they had a 6-pack of Charmin for $0.25! Had friends that got up at 3 AM a few yrs ago to get their TP for a quarter. I try to do all of my Christmas shopping prior to the end of October precisely because I hate crowds.

CC&E-a huge Scrooge when it comes to shopping

The only person to respond to the "alarm" is "Calm,Cool,& Collected"!!^_^

My 17yr old son & I were out to pick up a repaired computer screen, & thought it would be fun to grab a bite at the Food Court in one of the local "Mega-Malls".
I was intending to park on the perimeter, but even THOSE spaces were being 'stalked'!
Our beliefs leave us pretty "humbug" about the spectacle, but we participate just enough to not leave anyone alienated.
We wait till the dy after, when the huge "get rid of the inventory" discounts kick in.

Yep, my teens would rather wait until after Christmas to go shopping, more bang for your buck and less hassles.

We don't focus so much on gift-giving in the popular sense. This year my side of the family are getting together for a few days between Christmas and New Year's (we are scattered around the east coast). It has been almost ten years since we were all last together. I am making photo album/scrapbooks for each family. I am making up pretty album pages (Christmas and winter themed) so that each family can add their own photos and journaling later on as a memory of our time together.

i have absolutely no intention of allowing myself to be driven into a neurotic episode by attemting to navigate the retail cesspool.

Perhaps i will go out to look at merchandise, however, when it comes to actually buying the stuff, i will sit at my Linux computer, and....

Point...(decide)...Click....Next website...Point...(decide)...Next Item...Point...(decide)...Click...Next website...

Repeat as often as required.

It is a much calmer way to shop. i will however, eyeball and handle the merchandise before i decide to buy. An image can only show so much.

We made sure we stayed home yesterday...a safe and sane thirty-five miles away from town.

This morning I had to take the car in for some maintenance and run some errands. I like to get an early start on days like this, getting the car into the shop at 7:30 when it opens, having breakfast at the corner restraunt while the work is being done, then getting my errands done as quickly as possible. Seems like everyone had shopper's hangover today...town was still eerily quiet when I left around noon!! :D

That's what i'm doin, too.
I've been usin' the color copier at Kinko's & buyin' frames at The People's Republic of WallMart.
Amen, Preach it Brother! If the Walton family doesn't take charge of the day-to-day operations of Walmart, i predict that the chain will go out of business in 10 years.

The current management team appears to have their heads firmly entrenched in their nether regions. As of late, they've managed to offend their entire client base.

While as a good Libertarian, (card-carrying, dues-paying, party-voting) i believe that Walmart's relationship with it's employees is between Walmart and it's employees, there is a limit to what the public will tolerate from the corporation. The current social issue involvement is a case in point.

Walmart is a retail chain. As such, they make their money selling merchandise to the public. They shouldn't be messing with any social issues, no matter which political wing is pushing the issue. While they're certainly free to do that, they're loosing perspective, and getting away from the primary goal.

Have you noticed that just about all of Sam Walton's policies have been reversed since he died?

That's how i got this computer. i found that it's far more secure to use pre-paid 'credit' cards for internet transactions. i can get them through the AAA in the state i live. It ensures that one does not get ripped off, or leave a scammer with your banking information.

i also carry a separate bank account in a bank that i have no dealings with (i.e., no money coming into except for what i deposit to cover transactions) for such purposes.

youse all make no sense to me whatsoever, sorry.

Sorry....America always celebrates our Thanksgiving on the last Thursday in November, and the day after that has become America's most commercial day of the year!! All of the stores launch their Christmas sale specials and open early. The day has become such a madhouse that it's now referred to as 'Black Friday'. Sane people stay home!

I think Black Friday has gotten quite shameful. The stores advertise deep discounts on some items that will go on sale at certain times of day or night. People will camp out in advance to get a chance to buy whatever it is. When the doors open, human beings act like wild animals to get inside and will stop at nothing to get to the merchandise. It is unbelieveable.:sigh:

-to quote that demon/metal group System Of A Down.
I'm thinkin' I'm gonna like that new James Bond actor. I realy enjoyed hating him in his last movie.

Dark Lord,
ya got a major point in yer "retail cesspool" description, but... I'm not sure it's entirely possible to seperate any social activity from social issues entirely with a healthy result. Pure capitalism is pure Mammon worship & fascistic to boot, so moderation by the 'human element'* is the only redeeming feature of ANY system, I suspect. But then again you are right that being pro-active can lead to unintended consequences even when the policy ISN'T "wrongheaded" to begin with.
I haven't been doin' the Policywatch thang w/dose guys enough to veryify your observation, but as a graphic artist, I did form a Citizen's Action Committee Of One and produced a bumper sticker.
It is blue, with the word "Wall*Mart" in white & the star in the middle is red. The letterstyle I chose is called "Rickshaw", the one commonly used by Chinese Restaurants. Most people 'get it'. Some do a double-take. When I have access to a more articulate machine,I add the slogan underneath:"Selling Out America, One Product At A Time!"
