I tried a poll a while ago and found out that despite what OEC's and Evolutionists say, YEC's are the majority among Christians. This may only be true in this forum but I've heard of similar polls elsewhere and they indicate the same thing.

I don't really think that a forum is the best place to make a conclusion about what the majority of people think.
I think the data supports underdog77 at least for the US. Here is the latest from the Gallup poll of Americans:

"Man developed, with God guiding.........................38%
Man developed, but God had no part in process......13%
God created man in present form..........................45%
Other/No opinion................................................4%

...
"Forty-five percent of Americans agree that God created man in his present form about 10,000 years ago. "
The above data can be found at.http://www.gallup.com/poll/content/?ci=14107

Given that 13% say God had nothing to do with man, and 4% having no opinion, these groups are probably mostly atheist and agnostic. That leaves 83% of the people thinking God had something to do with man's creation. since 45% is a majority of that 83%, I would say that YECs constitute a majority of the American Church.

Now let's do a study to see how many of that 45% are scientists or have actually studied the science behind evolutionary theory and creationist theory.

When you make a multilingual poll that is not online (which is heavily weighted towards American users to begin with), you'll get a much more accurate sample.

Until then, these polls are useless for determining what the real Christian majority believes in.

Now, if you're interested in something else, like what the American Christian population believes in, or what the online English speaking Christian internet users believe in, then you might have a bit more accurate sample (still fraught with quite a few flaws even then).

Well, it depends on how you divide up the figures. Consider the first two categories. Both say man "developed" rather than being created in his present form. So both are probably supporting evolution. Together this group constitutes 51% of the whole. And the majority of these (38% of the whole or 75% of this group) say God had something to do with this development. So they are probably theistic evolutionists.

That leaves the 45% split between OECs and YECs with no indication of what the percentage of each one is. So we can't actually say from this that YECs constitute the majority of the American church, though we could conclude that most American theists don't accept human evolution.

On a global basis, since evolution is much more broadly accepted, theistic evolution is still the dominant Christian position.

Of course, the question of how these percentages change in respect to level of education and familiarity with biological and geological science is also very relevant.

That wasn't the question as I understood it.

But, I will absolutely agree that the number of degreed scientists who believe YEC is extremely small. The evidence for it simply isn't there. Contrary to what the YECs tell themselves, it has nothing to do with naturalistic presuppositions.

For the edification of any YECs who might be here, I will post a note on buried river channels. It is hard to see how they can be explained in a global flood.

you see, 1 denom, you still don't get it. As I said in the other thread, this is the insult (despite the little winkie;)) that I was referring to, insinuating that if we believe in Theistic Evolution, we must not be talk walking, gospel preaching, tru blu, born again, evangelica Christians--of which I am all
Until you can get the insult, you cannot get the debate

The majority sure is YEC, however I think the percentage of TE/OEC that use forums is much higher.
If we move outside of the US, we find that this is simply not so. Strict creationism as a majority is a USA phenomenon. It is rooted in the dispensationalist and fundamentalist movements, which are just about unique to the USA

i put something else. I beleive in the possibility that God created us through evolution, which seems to be the most accurate of all the theories and that God possibly created the universe using the big bang.

The idea of YEC-ism is highly improbable, especially with the evidence we have this day and age.

just my 2 cents

(I have no ill feelings towards beleivers of YEC or others)

I do agree that YEC is heavily in the US. But to say that it is rooted is dispensationalism or some reformation stuff is simply untrue. Most of the Orthodox I know are also YEC, and we have not been heavily involved with the west for but a short time.
