  • According to the latest Edelman Trust Barometer, people have moved beyond polarization to “aggressive advocacy for self-interest.”
Trust in governments, business leaders and the media has devolved to the point where people feel angry, alienated and willing to drive change by almost any means possible, according to the 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer.

The annual global survey of more than 32,000 people in 28 countries found respondents have moved beyond polarization to what it describes as “aggressive advocacy for self-interest,” a finding reinforced by the fact that many voted for populist candidates in elections this past year."

For Christians, I would say that Gen Z doesn't know where to go to get
accurate information.

I would assert that Gen Z is faced will all sorts of challenges, that are coming
to a head, after decades of disintegration (in multiple areas).

I would assert that the perceived frustration of Gen Z, also involves a sense
of entitlement, and a sense of undefined (or unjustified) persecution, or is
the result of grinding poverty that politicians and the governments and the
leaders of industry don't seem to care about.

I would point out that the younger generations have almost all rejected logic,
and the foundations of democracy, while still using the rhetoric of freedom and
democracy. THIS, cannot end well. Showing up in a group demonstration of violence,
in order to bring about "justice", is the establishment of lawlessness.

And, politicians who appeal to Gen Z, with the surface language of "change" and
"making everything wonderful", are often the very ones who simply want power and
money, and don't care who gets trampled in the quest of billionaires.

So far, it seems that the billionaires are doing a better job of manipulating Gen Z,
that Gen Z is doing in articulating the basic definitions of a free and fair society.

I fit in that range though only just ( 33) While I do not support violence for change I do realize sometimes violence is the only way ( though this is rarer than I think many people think it is.

Very interesting..

For me the link in the OP was behind a paywall. I found a yahoo article that covers the story...

You can also download the report directly from the study group..

Although the GenZ group is the most prone to support violence. One thing the study did show is that all age groups are unhappy. Those 55+ are even more unhappy than GenZ, just not as supportive of violence to change it.

(from the Yahoo article linked above)

The sense of grievance against elites and institutions spans different age groups and political beliefs, with 69% of those on the left and 57% of those on the right holding moderate or high grievances, and 66% among the 55+ age group, vs. 58% for Gen Z. Two-thirds of respondents said that journalists, government officials and CEOs intentionally lie to them; the same percentage now find it difficult to differentiate between news from a reliable source and disinformation.

It's not just Gen Z... disinformation is affecting all age groups.

We are undergoing a technological and cultural shift as great as the invention of the printing press and the Reformation ,and we can expect similar societal upheavals until we can agree upon an ethical code to live by in such a situation. It will require a shift in consciousness as profound as what happened during the last Age of Reason.

My concern with this article, is NOT beating on Gen Z.

From a Christian point of view, I am more interested in discussing what
Christians think "justice" means, and where "violence" fits into justice.

From the Christian point of view (Paul, at least) the "law" exists to punish
those who engage in evil actions.

Can society be controlled, legally, without "violence"?
