macintosh vs. microsoft ?

I got my hand at a pipe with the following Beta OS. Working ones.

Win2K3 AIO,

WinXP SP2Corp Slipstream ISO,

LH.Alpha.build.4008

Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition.

There appears to be limited software for the Mac, and the available software is expensive. Windows offers much greater choices, and there is an excellent chance that you will find good freeware to do what you want done.

I would really appreciate additional information on this subject. I use Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. I've wondered about security problems and possible advantages of switching to another email program. Do you have a recommendation for a different email program? Thanks.

Limited, yes, but not particularly more expensive. And, really, once you have *a* good choice, you don't need many more.

I get more done with less effort on a Mac than on Windows.

Mac isn't necessarily more expensive but window's software is much easier to attain illegally. Many people have thousands of dollars worth of software that they didn't spend one penny on. This is still possible on mac, but quite a bit more difficult.

DNAunion: And I, and tens or hundreds of millions of other people, both in their personal and professional lives, get tons more done on Windows than on Macs. Guess your personal testimony kind of pales in comparison.

Hey, no need to get worked up over computers.

After all, none of them actually do exactly what we want every time. If I had it my way, I would actually use Linux but the software support just doesn't compare to Mac and Microsoft.

I voted microsoft. Firstly, I can't stand the old Mac OS 9.x. I was excited when Mac OSX came out, but I soon found that all my existing software had to run in a slow and clunky Mac Classic mode which stripped the programs of the beautiful OSX system.

Secondly, I own an ibook which has been a disaster from day one. It crashed more than my PC, the battery in the last few months wouldn't take more than 1/2 charge (lithium ion battery, so it should have been good), then finally on the day before my marks were due for my school, my ibook bit dust with all my marks records in it. Apple isn't doing a very good job of swaying me over to their platform.

I've got a PC running Win2k which has never crashed (fatally). Some programs might crash, but I can close the program and restart it without rebooting. That's usually a fault of the program, not the computer or OS.

I can run most of my old programs (even from Win3.1) on Win2k. Microsoft has done a wonderful thing by allowing you to run programs from older OS almost seamlessly in their newer OS.

I LOVE preprogrammed keyboard strokes for almost everything in windows platforms. Including the menus. I never found a way to do alt-F to access the file menus in the Mac. I was forced to use a mouse which I find is very hard on the wrist.

So I have to ask myself, why DO Macs cost so much more than PCs? I just can't figure that one out!

I do a lot of Video and Graphic Design on my Mac at home (freelance)and use a PC at work. There are great things to be said about both. But I do favor my Mac. It's just nice to know that you can render a 30 minute video file and come back to know it hasn't frozen and forced you to reboot. I've had to reboot my PC twice this week. After 2 years, never had to force a restart on my Mac.

Interesting, I had to do that more than once on my ibook. It may have been poorly written programs though.

You are kidding about redhat right? Do you know how long I have heard that Linux is going to knock Microsoft right out of the water. And regarding the poll....Let's not forget that Microsoft did bail Apple out of financial ruin about 6 years ago. I prefer Microsoft (and not just because I'm an MCSE) and I don't think they should be penalized because all of the other choices suck!
