• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I hope no one minds me venting this out, but its hard to deal with and i dont really talk about it, though i think i should. I've had Lupus for 6 years now, I am 20 years old. It is definatly something hard to deal with expecially being young. I often have the feeling of being inferior because at times i dont even have the energy to be a fun person or to really be a person at all. I feel like people wont like me because they will soon tire of my being boring or tired all the time. I think this would be a good place to share what things have helped and what things are truobling or on anyones mind. I think its important to have support when dealing with any chronic illness. Here are some things that have helped in the past year..though unfortunatly due to finances i had to stop, so now it is getting worse again I was doing natural therapies that i found were vey helpful and removed many of the symptoms. I will list them here if anyone is interested:

First i would like to recommend a very good book: Lupus- Alternative therapies that work by Sharon Moore. Her story is very inspiring and the information in the book is very useful.

Chamomile tea(its best if organic)...this works by "chilling out" the part of the immune system that overreactes and causes damage to the body, it also helps you to sleep.

Zyflamend by : New Chapter...this is a natural anti inflammatory equivalent to viox. This works very well in getting rid of the pain. I highly recommend it to anyone with problems with inflammation.

A good multi vitamin to help with energy(its best to get one from whoel food source rather than synthetic)

LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER!!!!

Vitamin C...antioxident, helps fight infection

A good thorough and gentle detox

deep breathing exercises for energy

green tea for energy and stress relief, as well as antioxidents

detox juice...this works awesome for energy and pain....you need a juicer for this one though it needs to be fresh, here are the ingrediants:

parsely (lots of this)

lemon(about one)

celery(a whoel bunch)

apple(about 2 or 3)

beet(about a half or whole..depend on how much you can stand the taste of beets)

spinach(a few handfuls)

carrot(a couple)

Drink one small glass a day...no more than one.

Calcium...for bone strenght and also to nuetrlise the ph(sick or diseased bodies have more acidic ph levels, calcium is base so it neutralises the acidity)

Include lots of fresh veggies and fruit(dark green leafy veggies are also very good at nuetralising acidity)...try to stay away from hormone and antibiotic fed animals and animal products, Lots of whole grains for fiber.

Try to stay away from caffeine, sugar, refined carbs, and food additives..these can aggravate lupus and stress the body.

Not too much meat..particularly red meat. The best kind of meat that is the most healthiest is fish..the fattier the better..the fat contains omega 3 fatty acids which are good for protection of our bodies cells)

B-vitamins for energy

Thats pretty much the basics of things thast are really helpful.

I also have a theory on lupus if anyone is interested in hearing then i will post it If anyone else has anything to share whether it be a problem or something that is helpful that would be great!!

Blessings

yeah, i think their pretty simalar...i think they're considered "sister" diseases... My Lupus doctor a while back though i might have fibromyalgia but the tests came back negative. I think many of the things i listed would probably help...at least the ones for energy and inflammation. its hard thing to deal with having a chronic condition but i like to think of it as a learning experience;) I'm kinda thankful actually that i have what i have cuz im learning lots and lots about my body and the process of healing wich i think will help me a lot in the career im going for, which is a naturopathic doctor. But its still hard, expecially on the bad days or sometimes i just feel like an old lady(i'm only 20).

I feel like an old lady too, almost every day..I feel like I've been ran over by a semi-truck constantly.
lol...I feel like that sometimes too, sometimes my whole body hurts and i have to stay in bed. But mostly its my abdomin. That juice i gave above really helps with the pain..when i was really sick..when my whole body was hurting and i had to be in bed alot, i did that juice plus a vegan diet for a week or two and a felt really good after a week, the pain was 95% gone and a had more energy than i had felt in a while.... i highly recommend it:) im finally able to start my vitamines again so things should get better. i stopped for a while and my health went right back down the tubes. It is really hard having a disease like the ones we have cuz it takes so much effort to be healthy and keep it that way, but i think people are given things that are hard to deal with in their lives becuase we are strong and it is something to make us stronger. i think that book may have some helpful things in there for you cuz the diseases are closely related. just my two cents....

Hi everyone that has responded to the thread!
I also have lupus I denied it for a long time after my diagnosis.
I just kept telling myself I am not sick look at me I look as healthy as can be.
When I start swelling all over I know it is time to get to the doctor.
I told her no predisone so she agreed to a herbal remedy but there is no cure.
Some days I feel pretty good but most of the time I hurt all over my skin even hurts.
I was recently told to stay out of the sun by my doctor.
I love the sun.
I got lumps and bumps all over my head a couple weeks ago.
I mowed the yard the sun brought this own then I got what was called the lupus rash across my nose and cheeks.
I was down for about 8 days.
I have to keep check on my kidneys.
My sister has fibro which they are similar.
I just hope there is a cure down the road.
There is a lot of suffering people but most think you look great so you must be fine.
Hang in there everyone.
I take lots of vitamins.

I take lots of vitamins.
Me too:)
Have you ever tried a detox, it feels wonderful....i like doing those the best
I cant be in the sun either cuz i feel like im gonna pass out from the heat and i get dizzy and black out if im in it too long and moving around, pkus i take st.johns wort which causes photosensitivity, its usually fine in normal people but cuz i have lupus and im already phtosensitive it duobles it. I dont take prednisone either cuz i took it for like three years and it did nothing and on top added to my photosensitivity, so i decided just not to take it and do the natural thing instead.
My love and blessings to everyone else here who is also suffering...

I have never did the detox method yet but my doctor suggested it but the one she suggested I thought I would put off.
I agree with the natural herbal remedies and I don't eat any meat.
Since there is no cure why take predisone and not even help.
Well you are so young I hope they have a cure by the time your my age.
because it hurts and the pain never completely goes away.

I will post then again, it is a post I did before. If any one out there has back problems, fibro, IBS, and whatever terms these doctors come up with today, I reccommend you read my post. Many will not accept this because it goes against tadition medicine, but maybe if you are in enough pain you will give it a shot. Remeber those doctors are obviously doing nothing for you. Here is my past post.

have requested prayer on here about my back. I had been having soreness and tightness since I was 16, and I am now 27. Well about 3 years ago he doctor did a Cat Scan, which showed a crack in my L-5 vertebrae and bulging discs. The pain started to get really bad about a year and a half ago, burning pain in low back, down into the legs and into the feet. Me left leg would get weak and throb. I was losing hope, they did an MRI and it showed my disc was shrinking. I tried p.t, chiro, supplements, medication, chiro, neuro, ortho, nothing was helping with the pain. I could not sit for more than 15 minutes, I had trouble bending, running. I became very depressed. I would go to the back chats and hope to find some answers, but there everyone remained in pain, even after surgery. That was my last hope, surgery, and after reading about those who had surgery there was no way I was going to have it. So one day a guy came back to the chat room and said he read a book, and it healed his pain. Well me being the skeptic I was did not believe him, because I became an expert of the cause of back pain. But I got desperate enough and got the book. Actually kind of helped me, so I got another book by the author and it helped. Today I have a little pain, but I have come so far and I soon will be free of pain. I thought I would post this and hope someone could read and identify with it. The books I have read and re-read are "Healing Back Pain" and "The Mindbody Prescription" written by John E. Sarno, I recommend anyone with chronic pain to read these books. I am back to living again. Sarno believes that back pain, tendonitis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, neck pain, acid reflux, etc, are caused by tension, anxiety, depression, stress, etc. He believes these emotions and different personality types cause muscles, ligaments, tendons to become oxygen deprived, therefore causing pain. To some this may sound crazy and to me at first it did also. Sarno calls it TMS(Tension Myositis Syndrome). There is a message board that I go to called tmshelp.com. God introduced a christian man to me there, who has been healed of low back pain for twenty years, and he has helped me out so much. I have felt led to post this thread because I know so many people are out there suffering and you may be one yourself or you may know smeone out there here is suffering from chronic pain. I would be glad to help anyone out and if you have a question you may PM me at anytime. (Edited by allieisme for email address)
