Hi all.. I'm kinda a newbie here. I've been trying *very* hard to lose weight. I have about 50 lbs to lose. I started working out and eating better and still not losing much at all. I would just like to hear any success stories any of you may have and what you did to get where you are. Any help is appreciated!!

Most of the time losing weight is to a large degree a health issue.
I never really needed to lose weight, so I cant give any success stories from my point of view, but my brother lost about 35lbs at one time over a period of months because he was getting a little larger than was comfortable for him. He just had self control as to what he ate, and exercised more than he was before that.

Here's a really simple way to look at it:

Your body needs 30-40 kCalories per kg per day (varies depending on exercise)
Calculate your energy requirement based on your ideal body weight.
Make sure you get this energy requirement from thi right types of food.

So there will be no crash weight loss, but a gradual re-adjustment, so that when you reach your ideal weight, you will have a perfect balance between energy intake and expenditure, and you will find maintenance easy.

Consistancy & patience is key.

Training first thing in the morning on an empty stomach helps to utilize fat for energy as your coming off an overnight fast and your muscle glycogen is already low so your more apt to burn fat for fuel.

I like continually alternating between upper and lower body workouts (weight training) Mon/Wed/Fri...

and 20 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training (cardio) Tue/Thu/Sat.

I would really like to see your diet as I believe it to be critical to your success... shoot me a p.m. if you want further assistance from me ;)

It's hard to tell how you're doing without specifics. Do you know how many calories you're consuming a day, and how much of those calories come from fat? Remember, sometimes when we think we're eating healthy doesn't mean we are! You can be eating very small portions and still be consuming way too many calories, for instance having some raisins and two cookies, though it may not seem like much, probably has more fat than a cup of fruit and a cup of fat free Jello combined! How much do you exercise, and is it low or high impact cardio?

I suggest reading about it as much as possible! Do a search for Anne Collins, she has a great web site with a list on how many calories different foods have. Good luck!

:)

Can you post a typical daily menu and your excercise schedule? Hard to determine what is happening without that info.

welcome to the boards!

LN

My typical exercise schedule is upper/lower body weights tues/thurs/sat and cardio mon/wed/fri and sometimes as well on the "weight" days. My diet basically consists of low fat yogurt in the morning, salad or tuna on wheat for lunch and chicken or fish for dinner. This really doesn't vary much. I have had to force myself to eat veggies because they are not my favorite foods :o
