Hi everyone. Had to come home from work early. My neighbor called, my other next door neighbor's dryer caught on fire today. Luckily they were at home when the fire broke out. No one was hurt. They got fire damage, smoke damage and water damage. As far as I can tell, my house only smells like smoke, I don't think I have any soot. My basement smells the strongest.

I can't believe how fast I got home to check on my dog. Would you believe he didn't use the doggie door to get out. My neighbor kept calling him to come out, but he stayed by the front door until I got home.

I have all my windows and doors open and the ceiling fans on. It is raining outside. I am wearing a jacket, cause it is chilly inside.

I called my insurance carrier, they suggested I wait a day or so. I have a claim number and a deductable.

Anyone else ever go through this. Any suggestions on how to get the smell out of the house.

We all were really fortunate. My neighbor whose house had the fire, had a hard time getting their dog out of the house. My neighbors said there was a lot of smoke coming out of the windows and doors. Everyone was worried since we live in townhouses.

I was so glad to see my dog. I know he was really glad to see me.

I think I have either gotten used to the smell, or I aired the house out pretty good tonight. Maybe the rain helped also. Tonight I am going to leave the kitchen window and the basement window open. That is where the strongest smell was.
