  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You can make your silly stance all you like. God says marriage is between a man and a woman. No matter what sort of legal hocus pocus you conjure up God will continue to say this. Ah but you don't believe in God now do you, or right and wrong as far as families are concerned either. I have no doubts that the litany of baloney is a mile long with you and your likes. God is in control and people voted their conscience after this was thrown out the first time by activist judges. You can accept what society deems right and normal, what Gods deems right and normal and morally correct or you can continue in your rebellion until you reap your harvest. Justify your position all you like it is beyond justification except to those that have a warped sense of truth and righteousness.
Neither god, the bible nor you can ductate law or take away the rights of a minority.

And that sowing is of Gods design not mans.
You just relish in using it to justify bigotry.

And so we stand all liars and unworthy of life. Only Gods word is true and is to be followed. So go ahead and spread around your deception for in the end you will reap what you sow.

I do not believe in god and the bible is but a mish mash of fairy tales so you can believe it all you want but don't force it on everyone else.

Yes, and it is also a democracy. Everyone gets a vote, and in this case the gays lost fair and square.
See you cannot have it both ways so that means you actually do not get to vote to deny a minority their rights. Again this is why prop 8 will be overturned.

Any gay man in America who is a citizen can marry a woman. Same goes for any lesbian woman who is a citizen - she can marry any man she wants. We are not denying them anything that we ourselves don't have.

But as has been shown to you time and again separate is not equal and since gay people are not attracted to have any desire for nor want to marry someone of the opposite sex you are in fact condoning discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Nor would they be getting special rights because you could thn marry a person of the same sex so it would open up half the population for you.

It's not discrimination. Straight people can't marry a same-sex person, just like gay people can't.

Well the CA Supreme Court has previously stated that it is most certainly discrimination and they trump your views.

You also do not seem to care that gay people have no interest in the opposite sex, yeah that is compassion and understanding.

Too bad it was overturned with a vote. I guess the people's views trump that.

No it does not which again is why it was overturned once before and will be again.

I guess we will see, but since neither of us knows the future, I can say that as of now, the people's views trumped the Supreme Courts views. That is all.

Quick question here, just to clarify: if the people overturned Christians' right to marry other Christians with a vote, what would your thoughts on that be?

Seriously curious here. I want to know how consistent your position is, and how far it goes, and why, if you're willing to indulge me.

And the people should be shamed and will forever be known as bigots. And since the win was by a very narrow margin and more old people die off we will see people embracing the rights of gay people more and more.

Where I live there's lots of open-minded older people. I've been pretty surprised at the fact that pretty much the only people who stand openly as anti-gay bigots are fundy Christians of any age. Everyone else gets it. If Upstate NY were to take a vote right now I think the bigots would lose by a landslide.

That sounds like a very bigoted thing to say. Why should I be ashamed of my beliefs? Are you also profiling people by age? That sounds a lot like bigotry (i.e. profiling people by race). Don't be a hypocrite.

You are welcome to your beliefs but the moment you use them to decide how someone else lives their life you become a bigot and part of the problem.

You did not answer my questions. Instead, you ignored where I said that you were being a bigot by profiling people by age. I guess you agree with me on that point since you did not defend your statement?

Yes you should be ashamed of your beliefs if you use them to justify discrimination otherwise keep them to yourself and let others live as they so choose.
No I am not profiling people by age that was done for me by voting statistics so therefore I am able to state a fact which is that when they die off the vote will be very much the opposite of what it was not.

I will leave others alone, but when I am asked to VOTE on the situation, I will vote with my beliefs guiding me. How can I vote for something that I believe is wrong, immoral, or perverse? I can't.

The same argument about statistics are what many racists rely on when they try to justify their bigotry. Statistics can be twisted and spun to say whatever you want. Do you have another argument as to how you are any different from a bigot when you profiled old people in your earlier statement?

Are you really this dense? I mean come on, this argument doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

The argument is that we are not denying gay people anything that we ourselves don't have. Any gay person can marry someone of the opposite sex. They have the same right as us. If they choose not to use it, so be it.
