  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are these acrylic? I like that you work all the way to the edge. I struggle with making full scenes. The bottom wave ones is great. If you find the new ones let me know. Wave paintings are particularly tricky when I have tried them, though I was doing either watercolor or digital.

Thank you sir. The top ones are acrylic inks on yupo. The bottom 4 are tube acrylics all on canvas except for the tall waterfall which was on masonite. Ill find the better wave paintings and post here. I did like 20 in a weekend to sort it all out. Got to put the mileage on the brush :)

Check out this video of a wave painting in progress, done mostly with a palette knife. There a quite a few of his vids on youtube.

Thank you! This means a lot, especially from a Dutch person, from the country that gave us Escher, Rembrandt, and Vermeer, and VVG of course. (My wife is from an Amsterdam suburb so I get to visit the museums of Holland.)

Well, I am not dutch. ;) But my husband is. When my parents came to visit us when we were still newly married, he said he could understand the way Rembrandt was inspired with his style of painting, as he thought there was a special light in the sky. I didn't know Escher was dutch too. I did like the "stairs" by Escher, I also like such paintings/drawings.

So you have a dutch wife? :) Do you visit The Netherlands a lot?

I am glad you liked my comments too! You are very welcome! :rose:

We visit about once a year and stay with my in laws in Aalsmeer. Over the years I've spent different holidays in Holland. One Christmas it was so cold we were able to go ice skating on the canals in Amsterdam. People were selling hot chocolate out of their house boats. Where are you living in Holland? The whole country is beautiful so I'm sure it's lovely.

Found a few more wave paintings. Most humbling subject ever.

Definitely agree that they are humbling, very tough to capture. I like the luminance of the top example with the hint of the sun coming through the wave.

That seems like such a nice experience, that you went ice skating on the canals of Amsterdam and that they sold hot chocolate out of their boat houses. :)

I live in a town named Ede, it isn't too far away from Amsterdam, around 1hour travel by train. I have been visiting Amsterdam a couple of times with my mother in-law, it is so big, so I still feel like there are more which I haven't seen and more to experience.

I want to see and experience more of The Netherlands, there are indeed many nice places to discover! ;) :)

If you like a place which have more of a quiet and small cosy "village feel" over it, I'd recommend visiting Bredevoort, if you haven't been there before! A lovely place! And the Motel Bertram, yet also a Café and Restaurant in one, is a wonderful place to visit and eat at. Made in medieval style.

Wow I've been near Ede, may have even driven thru. We spent a few days in the park with the famous 'White Bikes' right near you. There is an outstanding art museum right in the middle of the park called the
Kröller-Müller Museum Unique in every season – Kröller-Müller Museum You could probably bike to it! You live in a beautiful area.

De Hoge Veluwe National Park

I just found the link to the hotel we stayed in in Otterlo. The food was outstanding.
★★★★ Hotel de Sterrenberg, Otterlo, Netherlands

I just googled Bredevoort and it looks really pretty. Have you been to the amusement park Eftling yet? Walt Disney was there at the original park after WWII which inspired him to create Disney World.

I just told my husband that this makes the world seem small. ;) It is special you have been near to it, and even might have driven through it. Otterlo is indeed very close by, I think it looks charming there. I like small villages. I also got my wedding dress from a bridal salon in Otterlo. :D

Thank you! We have already been many times to De Hoge Veluwe, we might go there more often as my father in-law does voluntary work there, so he has free entrance there. I haven't yet visited the Kröller Müller Museum. I have heard there are more abstract paintings in there? I am not so fond of this type of painting, but maybe it changes every time?

I shall look at the site a bit later. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I was at Efteling twice with my family when I was younger. But this is many years ago. I haven't been there since after these two times. I liked it a lot there! That's for sure! :) I didn't know Walt Disney went there after WWII, and that this was what inspired him to create Disney World. But that's amazing facts to have in mind.

You have been there as well?

Yeah. I have a son and he has cousins in Holland so we 've been a few times for the kids.

Some abstract but there was a lot of van Gogh including a lot of his charcoal figure drawings I never knew existed. I would bet the art circulates a lot so it's probably different every time.
