Lol timeless? Yeah...the kids are all listening to the Dead these days...

So basically, it's appealing to you because of...how it makes you feel?
I saw Dead and Co recently. There were as many young folks as "Jerryatric" folks like myself. It was one of my best shows ever. You could hear in every note that they were pouring their love into it. John Mayer may have started as a pop star, but he found his place.

This song reminds me of my wife, who I was hanging out with, tripping together, at the beach at the Indiana Dunes State park. My friend wanted to leave her behind and take off, but I said no...

...I fell in love because she wanted to hold my hand because she was afraid and I made her feel safe, or something I guess. :D

So this song, along with ramble on rose, remind me of my wife.

I'm not saying you shouldn't like them either...I'm simply saying that I don't get the appeal.

I don't like any modern country, but I at least understand the appeal. Songs about drinking and getting cheated on sung with a lot of pop influence have a lot of appeal to a certain demographic...for pretty obvious reasons.

I just never understood who jam bands appeal to other than the obvious dope smoking hippie stereotype (which I understand isn't true).

Yeah? Big place? How many do you think were in attendance?

It truly is an acquired taste... The more you listen, the more you appreciate it.

With the GD, specifically, the lyrical messages are also very enlightening

Jam bands are one reason I became a punk rocker. A rock song should be like a forum post. Get to the point. Say what you got to say, don't drone on and on. Although, in your defense, I was once diagnosed with attention deficit disorder...

No...I thought that would be rather obvious.

Do they start playing shorter, more interesting songs live lol?

If your interest, you may both like Widespread Panic.

I recall you mentioned them to me years ago. I looked them up and first thing I saw is that they're compared to the Dead and Phish, so I didn't bother to give them a listen. Why do think I might like them? Is there a certain song or two you have in mind?

Not necessarily. The move from 3 minute top 40 hit me the first time I heard the album studio cut of "Inna Gadda Vida" which went on for 17 minutes.

Short organ solo.
2 back to back guitar solos.
Drum solo.
Long organ solo.
Several minutes of musical mayhem.
Another short organ solo, and back to the main theme to end it.

I was amazed.

I grew up about 30 miles from there. But I have never been there.

Oh I love that place. The trails are great in the summertime, and the campground is nice too... I'm originally from Valparaiso -a little college town nearby.
