Lisa Rhemy on Racheal Ray?

Did anyone else see this epi of RR? The star of "King of Queens" was on and showed clips of how her 3 1/2 yo still uses a bottle, and is not night potty trained.

I don't know why but that was disturbing to me, to see how over indulged that hollywood child is.

It's definately not limited to Hollywood. I see kids all the time with pacifiers, bottles etc.

I know 3 1/2 yr olds who aren't trained either. Infact my almost 4 year old is still incontinent due to her disability.

I took a bottle until I was old enough to actually fix it myself. At least this is what they told me, I don't remember. My mom had told me that my dad use to say that he didn't care if I walked down the isle with it when I got married.

I don't see where the bottle at that age is such a big deal.

To Be fair , there are some concerns about bottles I guess with tooth decay and possibly tooth placement. Pediatricians say two . . .

but whatever . .parents dfo waaaaaay worse things to their children then let them keep their bottles.

I was just about to say that, my son is 3 and is still nursing (granted it is not the way he nursed at 10 months but it is still occuring nonetheless). We have just begun potty training successfully and I won't even consider night training him until he is fully weaned from night nursings.

Very good point! Children are raised to grow out of 'babyish' ways as quickly as possible and then hear a refrain of ' don't be such a baby' and ' grow up' their whole lives and then for some reason we wonder why our children are behaving the way they are in highschool. They are dying to be adults because they've seen that only adults are valued , only adults are considered worthy of respect and only adults are allowed to be contributing members of society. So they try to emulate the behaviour of 'adults'.

I would hardly call bottle fed and untoilet trained ' indulged'. I'd call children with every last brand name everything indulged , children who are undisciplined ( and drinking from a botle and peeing in a toilet are NOT about discipline) could be called indulged. Children who get whatever they want even if its bad for them could be called indulged.

I saw the clip and I wouldn't put up with it myself. I think she now realizes how difficult it's going to be to break the cycle.

I'll admit I didn't see the clip. I made my comments strictly based on your OP that her child is indulged because of still using a bottle and not being toilet trained. Regardless, do you know her personal situation? I just don't think it is right to be disturbed by a clip on a television show. I have enough issues of my own as a parent to work on before I start being concerned about how a celebrety is rearing her child.

JustBoo, what you described is a mostly industrialized mentality that is seen in "western culutres." That's why I like reading about how tribal communities socialize, including parenting, and incoporating some of that in my own parenting.

And just to be clear, Lisa Remini and her DH were ASKING for advice. They opened their home and their personal lives to get Help on Purpose. It wasn't that Rachel Ray barged in and shot video for some paparazzi media event...

IMO, that toddler is Definately overindulged. She's got her parents wrapped around her little finger. She throws a tantrum every Single time she doesn't get what she wants and they Cave every Single time.

This goes WAY beyond being night potty trained, co-sleeping, and eating during the night. 6- 8 bottles of milk or water Every Single Night? yikes.... I'm sorry, but it's a Rare 3.5 yr old who needs that much liquid at night... no wonder she's not night-trained yet....

sorry , it's my daughter's name so I guess it's easy for me to remember.

Anyway , tantrums are another thing alltogether and if she was asking for help - alright. Was she asking for judgement from every T.V. viewer? Probably not. anyway. whatever I just don't see the benefit of having a discussion about how indulged her child is , doesn't seem edifying.

I have to agree with JustBoo again. I don't see the point of this thread as being edifying myself. It's not like Leah will be recieving your advice. So, what is the purpose, if not pure gossip and a way to passively pat oneself on the back as a parent whose doing better than some celebrity? That is what I have always seen threads like these turn into and it doesn't seem appropriate for a Christian parenting forum to me.

Sorry if my opinion offends but I really have so many issues of my own as a parent that I'd be the last one to comfortably sit in idle conversation about some random celebriy's life and parenting choices.

Rachel Ray has 2 shows~ one is the 30 Minute Meals on the Food Network and the other one is the Rachel Ray show in syndication. She has guests and they do games, talk, and there is a little bit of cooking on each show.

For whatever reason (I missed that part), Lisa Remini and her DH did this on RR's show... I had seen a couple of clips of the show (Before it aired today) on Entertainment Tonight so I knew it was coming on. Lisa R. kept saying "I know we're terrible parents" even though no one else was saying that (not even close).

I think it's sort of a good thing though, that they were so honest about what was going on in their home... It's kind of like Super Nanny and those shows that show parents how to Help their kids when they're out of control. I don't usually watch this type of thing, but I was curious as to how they let it get so bad and why they couldn't get a handle on their only child.

I think we can take things like this as lessons for what Not to do... or at least realize that "if not for the grace of G-d, there go I"....

While I do see your point, jgonz, I am grateful that I don't need reminders from other people's mistakes about why I need God in my life. All I need to do is look at my own mistakes, I have failed 'nuff times in life to serve as my own reminder why I need God. I choose Him not because of others and their mistakes but because of my deep, unquenching need to drink of the water in which I will never thirst again.

Yea, just saw the clip, and I maintain my same position. I see a parent who wants the best for her child and who is just like me, learning and growing from the choices being made, and I certainly have no opinions of the choices she has made as a parent based on one television clip.

Leah looked absolutely STUNNING though. Wow, she is such a beauty, and it is a classic beauty in modern Hollywood. Mama Mia...caliente...hehe

She is very pretty. She isn't as young or skinny as she was a few years ago, but still beautiful. I used to want to look like her so bad during the first couple of seasons of King of Queens.

Wow. I actually remember her too. It had totally slipped my mind. I remember the green and white uniforms they wore. I was a Saved by the Bell addict. Zach Morris...
