I like Linux because it doesn't have as much security issues as Windows does and its free :)
Yes and no. It is safer because less people are using it. It is not exactly free, as in order to get support you must buy it, at least in many cases.

I like Windows because its pretty much how I play games...and I liek Microsoft Office better then I do the programs Linux has
I agree with you here. MS Word and such are much better than Open Office. My biggest beef is with reformatting problems between boxes with documents. My Linux box, has open so does my MS bos. You would think the documents would preserve theeir format. Nope.

Linux has come a long way, and the open cd project i think will help many people to view Linux and take it out for a drive. But until they can get the programs I use on that Linux box, I aint going to be using it for much.

Linux has strong points as does Windows I voted for Linux as I consider it 'better' because it's a thrill to compile your programs, it encourages users to make thier own program or help out hte community Linux users are more helpful and willing to lend a hand to new users, some LUG's have installfests to get new users to have linux on thier system if they are interested... there is a real comunity behind linux and it's FREE, as I said windows also has it's strong points... it's compatibile with most commercial software out there, so do you want security and control or compatibility? that's how I see it...

Definitely Windows and Windows XP Pro at that! :D But then again, I've never used Linux so I don't know how much I'd like it.

Windows for me, Im not familiar with Linux, but If I had a second computer I would install Linux to try it out :)

God bless,

Hi Lenard, if you have enough disk space, you could always install both on the same computer and use a dual boot. ;)

I picked windows for right now causes linux isnt compatible with everything windows run.
once ReactOS matures you may be interested in that... it's an open source (from scratch) attempt to recreate Windows compatibility with programs and drivers so in essence it would be an open source windows tho it still has far to go to catch up, ReactOS doesn't even have internet access yet... once it is ready for the average user I'll post it here...

I picked Linux because it doesn't run everything Windows does, like viruses, spyware, spam daemons and so on. There are plethora reasons Linux is better in my opinion. Microsoft is learning that proprietary formats are not going to work for much longer and they are going to have to work with better formats. The Open Office XML format is likely to become an official standard soon and MS will be forced to support it at least in corprate environments. But if you have to have MS Office and can afford the bloated thing then you can get Crossover Office from codeweavers and run it under Linux. I am required to run IE for a single thing at work so I run Crossover, IE is the only piece of MS software I have installed and I have no problems dealing with documents from the Windows using management at work, 99% of everything on the web works and the stuff that doesn't I wouldn't have used anyway more than likely, and more and more games are coming out for *nix and out of those that don't Cedega allows you to play the most popular ones anyway. I have no reason at all to have MS Windows installed!

You can partition your drives when you install linux.

I'm all for Linux. I've been having some problems lately with mandrake, but hopefully I'm going to install slackware tomorrow. :)

I tried Linux for a while and came back to Windows (wait...give me a bit to explain). I work as a programmer (in the boring financial services industry) and all day long I hear people discussing Windows based or at least Windows interfaced software and the technical details are mind numbing (DLLs, MSIs, .Net, GUIDs, binary compatability, SMS, etc.) but when I get home I can treat my PC pretty much as an appliance (albeit a somewhat dangerous one due to Microsoft's lousy approach to security). When I was using Linux I found myself constantly being dragged into the technical aspects when what I was trying to do was relatively routine.

So for now I'm in compromise mode: I use Windows XP as the OS on my home PCs, but I use Firefox, GnuWin software, etc. so that I keep one foot in the Open Source camp. Competition is good, competition is our friend and I don't trust Microsoft (both its security policies and its long term strategy of trying to control more and more of our computing experience).

I hope that over time Linux becomes more and more useable in the "appliance" mode.

I realize everyone may not agree with me.

Weakbuthopeful, I think you said quite a bit that I can agree with. I am totally fond of the platform of Linux, but until it gets more inline with Windows (in ease of use), it can never replace windows. I tell you though it is much better than what it was, that is for sure.

Hey, what about FreeBSD and the other Un*x type operating systems. :p

lol, I voted for Linux. But only one machine on my network runs it... and that machine is just a test box for cross-compilation purposes.

Other than work, or at the labs in school, I can't think of the last time I used Windows. Probably over five years ago or more since it was on any machine I actually used.

Door number 3: Macintosh OS X. don't listen to the rumors, it's great...

Go to www.apple.com/switch and http://www.apple.com/macosx/ to find out more. It truly is great... Apple just released the new iMac, which should do almost anything you want, and it is absolutely amazing:

Good luck in whatever you choose. I used XP for quite some time, used a friends mac laptop at school, never went back. :)
