CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like to draw. I prefer landscapes, mostly. The most important tip I can offer is to draw as often as you can. Don't worry about making mistakes. We learn the most when we do things wrong. The important thing is to draw over, and over again. The more you draw, the better you get at it. Don't make the mistake of thinking that your expertise now, is what you were born with, and that's it. As in anything else in life, our God-given talents are only a start. The more we use them, the better we get. A really good book that helped me with my drawing was "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards.

I love to draw. I like to draw animals, mostly. It's really amazing what you can do with the right software on the computer. Though I'm pretty good with pen and paper sketches, too

I used to love to draw. I used to do it all the time, as well. After I got married and had kids my drawing really slowed down. I'm at a point now in which I never really do it any more. Both my kids like to draw, I can see me in them. 
Something came out of my 8-year-old daughter's mouth one time, she said, "If you don't use it, you'll lose it!" That really struck home for me. She noticed I never draw any more. The thing is with me, I have to be in the mood to draw, something has to hit me, or inspire me and if I can't get to my pencil and paper right then, it's gone until the next time. And when I do draw, I get so mad at myself for not doing it just right (I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my own work) and not continuously practicing to better myself. And during that time I'll tell myself that I could be making my living from my artwork. I'm 29 years old now, etc. And sometimes I'll all of a sudden want to draw really bad, but I get the pad and pencil and then I get scared of letting myself down, not being able to draw what I see in my head. Most of the time what I see in my head is NOT what comes out on that paper! lol 
So, this is a never ending vicious cycle for me...HELP!! Anyway, what I like to draw is people mainly. The thing is, when I was a kid I wanted to be a fashion designer, so I always drew these beautiful women with these cool and awesome looking clothes. Then later I got into drawing faeries, mermaids, etc. That's still what I draw best. I even got into drawing X-Men characters, Native Americans, and Ancient Egyptians (Queen Nefertiti mainly) for a time. I had to draw a lot in high school. In my art classes we had to keep "Sketch Journals." We had to draw 3 things a day to put into the journal. Those were my best years. I look back in those journals and wonder how I ever drew like that and can't seem to do it now. All I know is that it's a God-given talent that I've wasted during the 11 years I've been married just about. So I guess I should just pray about it and ask God to give me visions to draw and to draw what I see, not what just happens to come out of my hand. Wow, I made this a long post, sorry, it just came pouring out!

As for tips, aside from drawing as much as you can, as has already been stated, learn as much as you can as well. Study anatomy and perspective. I cannot stress this enough. Get anatomy books and copy the drawings from there, paying attention to how muscles are attached and which ones move what, as well as proportions of the body and its general shapes. And, of course, draw from life as much as possible!

Hey, thanks for that info. I'll have to keep that in mind. I do have a book called "Drawing the Head & Figure" by Jack Hamm. And I have another book called "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards and Jeremy P. Tarcher. I've never been an avid reader, so I haven't actually read the books through, but I have skimmed through a bit, but never got the urge to sit down and put it to use. But soon I hope to really start reading them and soaking in all I can. Thanks again.

No problem! "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" I heard is very good. I was going to post a link to Andrew Loomis' books, which were at one point archived on the net. But the owners of the site were forced to take them down, unfortunately. I highly recommend any of his books though.
By the way, you are not alone in being afraid of not getting the drawing right before you draw it. It's something I have to fight with on daily basis and in my experience it just doesn't goes away. What keeps me drawing is the thought that no matter how many bad drawings it takes, all that matters in the end is the one good one you make.

Practice helps, and so does simply looking at other pictures to see what makes them look good. I also do a bit of experimenting on my own to see what works and what doesn't work. The biggest hint I can give for coloring is to make sure you know where your light is coming from. You can ruin a perfectly nice drawing by shading it with poor perception of light.
