It does not appear that anyone has pointed out the Bible never says "we will live in heaven," or that we will "go to heaven."

I was thinking the same thing. Based on Isaiah 65 it looks as though we will live on the new earth. Heaven can also mean sky.

In regards to memories - I'd have to say no based on "The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind."

I don't think it will be another physical existence on a physical planet. Paul said we will not have natural bodies but spiritual bodies. 1 Cor 15. We cannot understand exactly what a spiritual body is, but it is apparently not a physical one. The New Heaven and New Earth and New Jerusalem is I think symbolism pointing toward an existence we are not able to imagine.

Are you claiming that Christian theology doesn’t depict hell as eternal torture in fire? Let’s see what the Bible says about it.

The depiction of Hell in the Bible does not sound very pleasant. However, I do not see anything about devils in red suits with horns "raping people with red hot pokers." Nor do I see "screaming and howling in agony on a rack while her limbs are torn from their sockets, her flesh is flayed from her bones." Hence my comment about your uncritical appropriation of imagery from Dante's Inferno and Bosch's paintings in order to demonize the side you hate.

Also, I do not see the example of the angelic, perfectly moral, perfectly good, beautiful daughter who just happens to be an atheist and is unjustly sent to Hell and laughed at by evil Christian family members. That is a rhetorical sob story which you painted to elicit sympathy from the peanut gallery and demonize the side you hate.

Additionally, you recitation of the litany of proof texts from the handy dandy Prooftexts to Pull on Ignorant Christians When the Atheist is in a Bind handbook has no effect upon me.

Here’s what the Catholic Encyclopædia says about hell.
“The poena sensus, or pain of sense, consists in the torment of fire so frequently mentioned in the Holy Bible. According to the greater number of theologians the term fire denotes a material fire, and so a real fire. We hold to this teaching as absolutely true and correct. … Scripture and tradition speak again and again of the fire of hell, and there is no sufficient reason for taking the term as a mere metaphor.”

What are the medieval Latin verbs for "being raped with a red hot poker" and "screaming and howling in agony on a rack while one's limbs are torn from their sockets, one's flesh is flayed from one's bones"?

3sigma said:
When surveyed, 73% of Protestants and 60% of Catholics said they believe in hell.

So, the majority of Christians believe in hell and both the Bible and theologians say that those in hell are subjected to eternal torment, usually in fire, but whatever it is, it involves unbearable pain and suffering.

Yes, and...? Did you forget the part of the survey where it says what percentage of Protestants and Catholics believe people in Hell will be raped with red hot pokers and put on the medieval rack and screw like Dante and Bosch described because they wanted to give their readers a literal view of Hell?

^_^ Mr OP, you should be able to see the truth of this, and laugh. This is a difficult subject, but you should recognize Spiritual and Scriptural Truth is not determined by polls, nor by majorities. If you look into Church history during the first few hundred years, you don't find the same results as your polls show.

This is the heart of your problem right here. You keep assigning emotions to me that I don’t possess and I’ve had about enough of it now that you’ve started doing it in multiple threads. I don’t hate Christians at all. In fact, I can’t think of anyone I actually hate so please stop claiming you know how I feel.

1Do you think there is any fear or anxiety in heaven?
2Do you think you will retain your personality and memories in heaven?
3Do you think you will age in heaven?
4Do you think you will sense the passing of time in heaven?
5Do you think you will be able to learn or remember new things in heaven?
6Do you think you will be able to observe life on Earth or in hell from heaven?

1-No, not at all. There wont be any negative feelings as we'll be right there with God who loves us and takes care of us. We have all those feelings because we are bodies not souls (what we'll turn into in the afterlife), which bring all that , in the purpose of differenciation good from evil, (for example if pain didnt exist, everybody might have been fighting with each other because they would have felt nothing so we wont differenciate with what's good and what's good. And that's what God wants us to do, to see if we want to go to him or to the devil.

2-Not sure about that. I never saw it mentioned anywhere in the Bible if I'm not mistaken.

3- In heaven, we wont have bodies but souls. All bodies have endings, that's why humans-animals have age. But souls dont, because they live forever. And no, in heaven there wont be babies, there wont be genders. Therefore, bringing babies is impossible. Life will be completely different, that we can only know a few things about.

4- Yes, but Time will be much different in many ways.

5- Of course, our bodies will become souls, we will have much more intelligence , strenght, we will be learning about the new world, new creatures, new companions (angels) , we'll be transferred from a WORLD to another which is much more complex. so yes, we'll learn too much

6- Yes, that happened according to the bible.

P.S: Many great things God do to us,to his people, and we find it illogical, as it appears to be not good at all for us, because we can never understand him, our minds would blow, it is no match for his mind. For example , when parents sometimes beat their kids, kids would see that as totally wrong, not knowing that the beating may get them to listen to their parents right orders in order to become successful or good in life or to prevent them from doing bad habits. And when parents prevent their kids from eating too much chips and chocolate, kids will think their parents want to harm them not do good for them by trying to get them to avoid many sicknesses. This is why, we cant always understand GOD, because our intelligence is nowhere near his, so we can never understand him like what happens between kids and their parents.

Hope I helped you out a bit

You seem you dont believe that God is present, if you have some questions, ask them, maybe I can help out to show you that he 100% exists.

So, all in all, we cant understand God not even 1% and can have lots of questions about whether he exists or not, or whether he's good or not. He could've answered all the questions in the bible, but if he did, the bible would be infinite in size, because we'll always have questions no matter what, he just left us the necessary and important informations in it in order to believe, not to know, because it aint a cultural book or scientific book, but a faith book. And to know that he's a good God with extraordinary power who loves us(especially that Jesus said that only God is good, although Jesus was unbelievably good, so God is Really good, but we dont understand him, he satisfies us daily without us knowing, as he tries to do good without us realizing , secretly which is really good) and we will misinterpret him and his doings and his wantings.

So, all we have to do is have Faith mostly.
Although, there are many strong signs about his existance as there are many saints who constantly do miracles for those who pray for them, but that's a rare thing, although it happened a few times in our zone's surroundings last 50s years, like someone who was said he is in an advanced stage of his cancer , goes to the hospital and they tell him there's nothing they can do, it's too late, then he keeps praying all the time in his last days of 'supposed' life , asking for healings, then he dreamt a particular saint (St Charbel) visited him, put his hands in his body (where he had cancer) then disappears. He wakes us, and go to test himself, and cancer was suddenly disappeared. Doctors were really amazed, before he told them the story.(That's the 1 I know which happened like 2-3 years ago for a person not too far away from our home)
Not to mention, that every now and then, some are becoming saints after doing miracles to a few which get announced publically. So, if that's not true, either we (Christians) are lying or we are crazy. It's impossible to be crazy, because these things are happening in front of some of witnesses eyes, that there seem to be a no way escape from their disease, but they get healed after some dream where they see they get healed, do the tests and nothing shows up. And it is also impossible to lie, because what would we earn by making such lies and staying christians?absolutely nothing. We would most probably stop wasting our times and stop being religious and do what we want and enjoy our lives the way We want, not the way God wants us. And these miracles very rarely happen, and to very few people, if they are Very faithful and pray a lot when they get no escape.

Another proof is demon possession. And it's not the one you see in the movies, like 'the exorcist' because most of what you'd see there is untrue. You may say that there is no possession, but that the person is psycologically sick. I agree in LOTS of cases that that is true, maybe 90% or more of the times people say they are. But there are many case in which people are truely possessed. And I started believing in God, and praying, after i watched a demonic possession live on tv of an unbeliever (christian channel), and on a very trusted source, which made me to believe that there is evil, which means there is God. And demons dont possess many, so they dont reveal the truth that they exist, so they keep as many people as possible away from God.

The exorced never seemed psychologically ill, as at first he was totally natural, and in the second the priest came in and started praying, the possessed person started shaking like crazy throwing 100s and 100s of insults, threatening the priest all the time to leave him alone (the demon) and keep him in that person's body (they feel rest in bodies that's why they sometimes like possessing), but of course, the possessed tried to resist and everytime the priest was getting the cross near the eyes, the possessed will close his eyes, because if he looks at the cross, he'll get incredible suffering. and everytime the priest would get the bible in front of him, he'll start going crazy to move it away and keep spits on it. And he seemed 90% fine before the priest came in. And then after much effort, the priest got the possessed person freed, and he Became TOTALLY normal, not knowing what happened. But as soon as he was told by his companions, he immediately converted to Christianity and became faithful ever since, because evil spirits cant do [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] to anyone who loves Jesus&God and by praying and especially following the commandments, because he will be taken care of ;) and there are 2 other cases I watched about demon possession from the same source.

And if you believe in history book and not religious books, you can look up a book of a historian called titus, who talked about jesus christ being a wise man doing miracles and that he had risen from death, many followed him etc., as he was alive when Jesus was there.

I'll stop here , because if I keep posting every single sign and such, I'd probably not finish this week , but the one after. Hopefully I got some things clearer for you :D

That is Greek thinking, not biblical. Scripture clearly teaches about a re-created earth as our eternal home. The NT ends with heaven coming to earth and once again there is a pre-Fall union between God's kingdom and earth. Post resurrection Jesus had a real body - it could be seen and touched. His scars were still on His body. He ate food and talked with people.

The spiritual body just means a body re-created by God and no longer subjected to death.

Jesus had a spiritual body when he came to show his disciples that he had been raised from the dead, yet it was also physical in that they could see him and touch him. I think it would be more likely to say it is more than what we have now in that it will be eternal but we will be able to recognize each other from when we lived here on earth.

  1. Do you think there is any fear or anxiety in heaven? No, none at all....we will be in direct contact with God, worshipping Him! There will be no fear, anxiety-nothing bad! Just God's love!!
  2. Do you think you will retain your personality and memories in heaven? I sure hope not!!!!!!
  3. Do you think you will age in heaven? No-we will be like angels, the Bible says. Genderless and ageless.
  4. Do you think you will sense the passing of time in heaven? No-one day is like a thousand years to God-all we will be conscious of is being in His Presence, worshipping Him!
  5. Do you think you will be able to learn or remember new things in heaven? Probably not, not sure about that one!
  6. Do you think you will be able to observe life on Earth or in hell from heaven? Not sure.
All I know is that we will be in the direct presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We will be worshipping Him forever. I cannot think of anything better!

What do Christians here imagine life is like in heaven? I’m interested in the details of what you think about life in heaven, not vague feelings about it. Here are some of the sorts of questions that come to mind.

  1. Do you think there is any fear or anxiety in heaven?
No

  1. Do you think you will retain your personality and memories in heaven?
Yes about the personality, but no about the memories. that is, we will not remember the evil done here. I think we will recognize others that we know who will be in heaven also, though.

  1. Do you think you will age in heaven?
Not in the way we will here. We will be at our peak age in appearance. babies will not remain babies. Fetuses will not remain fetuses. They will age until they reach their peak age. We will probably appear to be in our 20s or 30s. I hope so; I looked much better at that age. lol.

  1. Do you think you will sense the passing of time in heaven?
Not in the way we do here, but there will be some sense. I don't know what, though. Just my opinion.

  1. Do you think you will be able to learn or remember new things in heaven?
Yes. We are not all knowing as God is, and we have eternity to fill, so I hope we have a lot to learn. And our memories in heaven of heaven will be complete; no Alzheimer's in heaven!

  1. Do you think you will be able to observe life on Earth or in hell from heaven?
On earth, probably. It tells Christian we have a crowd of witnesses in heaven watching what we do. In hell, I don't know.

Feel free to mention any other details that you think will be part of day-to-day life in heaven.

Okay, the Bible says we will be worshipping God and loving Him forever. In the books listed below, it mentions a great feeling of love present and everyone singing praises to God and worshipping Him. Now I will go out on a limb here and say I hope we have more to do than that. I would like to visit the rest of the universe and see His creations; and praise Him for them. I would like to be able to do things in heaven I don't have the guts to do here; like climb a mountain or go on roller coasters that are really steep (fear of heights keep me off them). Part of the punishment for Adam and Eve eating the apple was that we have to toil all our lives down here. I hope we have fun in heaven!!!

If you are truly interested in this subject, there are many books by people who have died and gone to heaven and come back that explain what they saw. I am looking forward to going to heaven myself, since both parents and the man I love are there. Two such books I have read recently are Flight to Heaven by Dale Black and Heaven is for Real: A little boy's astounding story about his trip to heaven by Todd Burpo. I got the last one at walmart.
