I start classes at Liberty Online on 2/11. Our church secretary completed her AA in Religion last year and she recommends the school strongly. She is still attending and working on a BA in Religion.

I am finishing up my sophomore year in the Bach. of Science in Religion program. My only advice is to stay on your work, man. I am terrible about putting things off until the end of the week and then either rushing to finish or not finishing at all. As much money as this stuff costs it's not wise to play around. lol

If you can do that then you won't have any trouble. Staying motivated is half of the battle. Best of luck to you.

Liberty is probably a good choice for an online degree. They've been offering (I believe) distance education for a good while now. As I recall, even before the Internet in 1980s, Liberty offered distance education via VCR tape recordings. So, they've probably had time to get time to get all the bugs out (so to speak) over the years.

OH MY GOSH, I love Liberty! I finished a full school year through LU Online last year. I really enjoyed it. The instructors and students are wonderful. I'll be starting as a campus resident student this Fall at Liberty University, and can't wait!!!

I'm confused, some of you talk like you actually go there? its ONLINE courses isnt it?
I was kind of interested in that, but I don't really have money, and I don't really want to be a ''preacher'' so I'm not even sure what I would even do with a degree from that.

Please tell me how it goes, what you learn, and what you do with the knowledge.

There's an online program as well as a resident program. By the time I graduate, I'll have done both.

You don't have to be a preacher if you go to LUO/LU. There are lots of degrees they offer like education, psychology, medicine, music, etc.

I have read that students often have a difficult time transferring credits from Liberty to other schools and that some graduate schools will not accept the undergrad credits (e.g. the degree!). I don't think this is a school that is going to look good on anyone's resume, unless you are applying for a job at an evangelical church. :preach:

What program offers the Christian counseling course? I am considering Liberty's online certificate in Ministry and Biblical Studies. Maybe I can take the counseling courses with those. Emailing them to ask.
For those taking Christian courses online here they are completely Bible based as in they really follow the Bible all the way through the programs and teach Bible based counseling? Just want to be sure.. would like to hear from those who are or have taken these online courses.

As far as the degree supposedly looking bad, I don't think it does to everyone, only people who are narrow minded. Yes, there are theological classes. But the paralegal classes I'm taking are tough and comparable to classes at any other school. I also had my landlord, who is an extremely liberal lawyer, say that Liberty was a good school and she was impressed by how well I was doing in my classes.

Yes! Liberty is a regionally accredited school (SACS). It is just as widely accepted as any other SACS school that is not a big name. I lived in VA for 9 years. In VA people love it and welcome people with degrees for there. Granted as with any accrediting agency the big name schools carry the most weight.

They are a Christian school and some things will not transfer, but if you have a degree, it will transfer under most cases.
Liberty is regionally accredited through SACS-COC. They abide by the same standards as accredited secular schools in the south.

FAQs answers

Most regionally-accredited schools agree to transfer credit that was C or better. Departments make their own decisions, however, and many will ask a transfer student to take the major courses from the department offering the degree. So you might find liberal arts courses coming through fine, but math and tech courses needing to match the departmental degree needs.

It is not a matter of Christian vs. secular in this case. Accredited schools agree not to teach dogmatically in their religion-based courses. A course like "Religion through liberty" probably has theoretical, comparative, and historical components.

Does anyone have a degree through the online program? Any words of advice?

Get overly-involved in the online class discussions, and connect with the other students when you can -- that will help with motivation when you start wondering where the humans are. Online learning is efficient up to a point, and then the human in you might start screaming out for personal interaction.

Anticipate this ahead, and figure out ways to compensate for it. Find some local student groups to have lunch with and debate topics. Use local college libraries, go to coffeehouses.

Congrats on a solid start!
